... thoughts on happiness!
« on: October 01, 2007, 10:22:39 PM »
I wanted to help everyone start their week with a little series of uplifting thoughts. Goodness knows, we all need some sooner or later, so I thought sooner was better! These are not new, but perhaps a gentle reminder from people much smarter than I.

"Happiness makes up in height for what it lacks in length."
- Robert Frost

"Happiness is nothing more than good health and a bad memory."
-Albert Schweitzer

"If only we'd stop trying to be happy we'd have a pretty good time."
-Edith Wharton

"The mind is its own place, and in itself, can make heaven of Hell, and a hell of Heaven."
-John Milton

"Sanity and happiness are an impossible combination."
-Mark Twain

"Happiness is as a butterfly which, when pursued, is always beyond our grasp, but which if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you."
-Nathaniel Hawthorne

"Happiness, it seems to me, consists of two things: first, in being where you belong, and second -- and best -- in comfortably going through everyday life, that is, having had a good night's sleep and not being hurt by new shoes."
-Theodor Fontane

"The essentials to happiness are something to love, something to do, and something to hope for."
-William Blake

Very uplifting, mate!  As I have said before, follow the words of Desiderata .... 'strive to be happy' ... and you can't go far wrong!
Still a beautiful day here ... slight breeze got up so have gathered together as much washing as I could find as I love the smell of clothing/bedding when it's been dried outside ... see, T, that's a small thing that could make you happy!  Lots of drowsy wasps around but have foiled them by picking all the apples .. ha ha ... will probably get stung now that I've said that!  >:D

Mustn't go around all mopey, especially on a Monday!

Hope you have your beekeepers' gear ready, Linda.

Wasps are bad, but here we're sometimes plagued by killer bees, and are far more deadly, but either way, it helps to be on the lookout! Stay safe!

I cannot quite envisage Linda in Apiarist garb...
But it is an appealing thought......

If washing is out drying, at some stage it needs taking back in, sorting, folding , ironing and putting away again...only to get dirty again...
I hate it......so there......

But I love to see it blowing about on the washing line ... and you know I even like ironing ... not so keen on the putting away part but just bung it in the airing cupboard and forget about it, until next time!  >:D

Do you even iron socks? Please say you don't!  ;)

It's amazing what people love doing! And what they detest. Personally, I don't like the housework, but I'll admit, when I've done a bang-up job, it does feel satisfying. I'm just not into it, and would rather read or write.

Must be laziness, as well as a big bit of backlash from growing up with a perfectionist mother who made housework a thankless, grinding chore!

I would far rather read or write too, threeb, and am far from house proud ... clean when the mood takes me or when it's about time for the Health Inspector to put a Danger Area cordon around the house!!  >:D

Roy ironed his socks, and 'pants' and T towels...in fact everything...everything....with a dry iron!!
What was that all about...??? Back to his Navy days i suppose....

I just think it is a complete waste of time and energy...especially when there are so many other exciting and absorbing things to do...like watching grass grow, or paint dry...or reading blank paper....

My motto...
You can look at the dust..just don't write your name in it...!!

Good thinking Batman...
Neither my Mum or my 2 sisters have any dust, dirt, washing, ironing, or any housework at all, outstanding...
But goodness they lead boring mundane lives, and their poor kids.....And you thought mine were ill-treated being kept in the shed - bloody luxury in comparison....i can tell ee!!
