Aren't we all?

Besides, you said you'd be peeking in to see whatever bad things we might say behind your back, right? Well, I'll be happy to say it all right to your face, anyway, so fear not!! Silly hag!  >:D

When my husband and I were in central Florida in July, he snapped this photo of a swallow-tailed kite (Elanoides forficatus).  It's probably not as exciting as seeing Eastern Roselles in your garden, but it was fun for us, since we live outside their range.  It was feeding chicks in a nest, but unfortunately we couldn't see them, only hear them clamoring when the parent got close.

True, Binkie. This was a new bird on our life list, so pretty exciting.  I've never seen any parrot-type birds in the wild, except some that were probably escapes in southern Florida.  They appeared to be relatives of budgerigars.

I think it was the sight of parrots that was the most exciting thing for us when we came to Australia, and after 30 years, I still can't quite get over the fact that they're around! One of our favourites is the yellow-tailed black cockatoo. They're big birds, with a mournful cry, and they flap their wings so slowly in flight that you expect them to fall out of the sky at any moment. We used to see them regularly when we lived furthe South, but unfortunately, they don't seem to favour our new neighbourhood!

What an amazing variety of birds live near you, Binkie -- the colours are so spectacular and brilliant, even this one! It must be like living in an aviary without the bars and cages! Thanks for sharing that.

We're extremely lucky. There are hundreds of other species, of course,  perhaps not quite as spectacular as the parrots, but fascinating nonetheless.(now there's an interesting word....must look up the history some time! And "nevertheless", too.)

RM:

Sorry to tell you, but that could not possibly be a kite.

It would need to have a lengthy bit of string attached . . . ;)
