Suffering succotash!
« on: March 26, 2024, 02:51:30 PM »
Another word queried in the 7-by-many club topic is succotash. This was the seed word in the 24 March puzzle.

I'm posting this here as a reminder to me, as well as an opportunity for all to comment.

As a dedicated Loony Tunes fan, I am familiar with suffering succotash. Thank you Sylvester.

I am also fairly sure that I have only ever heard this word spoken by Sylvester the cat, and had to look up the meaning again after I got it in the puzzle.

Ditto what Wibbly Bits said. I’ve heard of it, but only in the cartoon. Love Sylvester, he had style.

I think that I first heard it in the cartoon but that was a LONG time ago. One of my last words.

Kept me thinking English is becoming US Spanglish. I get to play a lot of Spanish words or of south west US Spanish origin. Chichi, cholo, chico, álamo y más

I didn’t get it. When I saw the solution, there was a faint bell that I’d heard it somewhere before. It was only when Jack connected it to Sylvester that I realised where! So - I have doubts whether it should be common.

My father liked succotash, so I'm familiar with the word. From my POV, it was a way to ruin perfectly good corn! (I'm okay with most beans, but not limas.)
