PLAINSONG in Friday Jan 6 Standard puzzle
« on: January 07, 2023, 11:13:57 AM »
It’s been a while since I couldn’t get the main word but I’ve never heard of PLAINSONG. Anyway as usual, Chihuahua helps my vocabulary grow. I can’t help but wonder if it’s a common word, of course just because I don’t know it doesn’t mean it’s not, but what do others think?

We "jagged it"....not a word I'd ever heard. I don't look at hit rates, # of rare words etc so always game  to try any combination of letters that might actually work! And sometimes they do  :)

I've heard of it, and I played it, just in case.  I read a lot of the Brother Cadfael (Ellis Peters) mysteries or watched them on TV, so that may be where I've seen it .  Common?  But not unheard of.

Not unheard of, but it didn't occur to me as a common pangram answer!

I did a lot of religious history at school and Uni but still missed this word even though I know it and the meaning. Not common.

I didn’t play the puzzle but am familiar enough with the word. Although as much because it’s one of my favourite albums and a wonderful book?

Most people seem to think plainsong is not common. I agree. It will be treated as a rare word in future, and no longer used as a seed word for 9-letter puzzles.
