7-by-many spookiness
« on: November 04, 2022, 03:13:53 PM »
Cue theme from The Twilight Zone....

So, on Tuesday Nov 1, I created a 7-by-many in the Your Puzzles section. I chose the word 'convivial' as the seed word, with the central letter L. You can imagine my surprise when I opened up yesterday's 7-b-m puzzle, to find that it had the same letters and 2 seed words, only with the central letter being O.

Was it just a coincidence, and if so, what were the chances something like this could happen randomly?

Spooky!

Actually, is there anything to stop you entering the current puzzle as a private puzzle and looking up the solution? I've never tried it myself (honest!) but I guess it might be possible....

That has occurred to me before - I’ve only made one puzzle (and failed to get a rosette!) but it did make me think you could do that I suppose?

I realize it was just a random coincidence. Upon reflection, the odds of this happening would be 1 in 7n, where n is the number of 7-b-m words in the Chi database. Maybe I should have bought a Lotto ticket on Tuesday!

As you have noted on several occasions Alan, people play Chi in different ways, and for different reasons. The main thing is that your games provide a huge amount of enjoyment to many people all over the world. For that, you can feel very proud, and we are all very grateful. Thank you once again.

It WAS weird! and I felt strangely uncomfortable playing it - like I was cheating. I tried so hard not to remember the first game, I ended up disadvantaging myself and didn’t do as well 🤣😝.

Agree 100% with the thanks to Alan!
And thanks to WB too, for posting puzzles for us 7BM addicts …
