nucleoli common?
« on: September 16, 2021, 04:06:35 PM »
re the recent 7bm game.

There were actually two 'seed words' - nucleonic which was 'rare' and managed to muster 73 hits from a 'playership' of 351.
That was still more than the 'common' seed word (nucleoli) which had 52!

I got them both, but only because, having seen and played nuclei, I checked the COD to see if nucleic was also a word. That's when I spotted the other two, further down the page.

I think nuclei should remain common, although there has been a tendency to 'downgrade' Latin plurals, but the others?

I concur Mike - I was one of those who got nucleonic but unfortunately I missed both nuclei and nucleoli...

I agree about nucleoli. It's already rare enough in the singular, let alone the plural.

I think nuclei should stay common though.  I don't think I have ever seen nucleus pluralised as nucleuses, although I am willing to be proven wrong!

I agree with Mike — nuclei is common, but nucleonic and nucleoli should be rare.

We could be on a winner here as Vizal had neither.

Your presumption there is that there is some level of self-interest in Alan's decisions...  ???

If all the words I've ever missed were made rare, there'd be precious few common words in the game.

Yes, nucleoli is a highly technical term, as is the singular word nucleolus which, as it happens, is already classed as rare. Nucleoli will be treated as rare in future.
