Rejected by the surname puzzle. I suspect that these days it's written as a single word more often than as two words. I'd even go so far as to suggest it should be classed as a common word.

Usually I'm skeptical about the idea of making a new word common straight away, but I think username passes the test.

The first known use of the word was in 1971, and I imagine that during the following couple of decades most people would encounter the word at work, if anywhere. But in this century it's really taken off. It seems to have eclipsed the two-word variant.

In future username will be accepted as a common word.
