I agree with Mike regarding "Bluenose"  as I have only ever come across it in the context he described, which is a very localised slang usage. I entered it expecting it to be "rare" at best and was surprised, (albeit pleasantly) to see it accepted as "common"!

Sorry, my post was ambiguous. What I meant to say was that I missed those words and, among them were, some obvious ones. I'll try to be more precise in future...  :P :P :P

my downfall was missing LESSEE and senselessness.
BLUENOSE is also a derogatory term applied to Birmingham City FC supporters. I played it more in hope than expectation.

Bluenose was the last " big word " that i found & it was just a desperate guess.

Mike, i am also a big fan of " The Sting " & there are a lot of scenes & quotes that i can easily & fondly remember but the name of one of the horses that Shaw was tricked into betting on would never have come to mind.
I am amazed that you could recall such a small detail.
I would have been even more impressed if you had used Doyle Lonnegan instead of Robert Shaw. ( i had to look that up )

Doxydaisy, so close to topping the open scoreboard.
Mkenuk, so close to topping the closed scoreboard.

Woo hoo!!!
I got a double-header!!! Maven (just) and rosette (my second in 7bm) - congrats to all those others who did well as well...

I was surprised and happy to get the last word in this one - who'd have thunk that GANJA was common???

Good on you John, very well done, sorry for not noticing your first double, thanks for letting us know as it a feat that deserves due acknowledgement.

I did not play ganja, jingo or doggo.
None of these words are common to me, particularly jingo & doggo.
I would appreciate any opinions before i submit a formal challenge to Alan for a reclassification.

One presumes from this that ganja is common to you... I'm shocked and appalled...  ;) ;) ;)

I'm fairly sure you've heard of jingoism though...

Well I knew jingo  (and so did quite a few others, apparently), and ganja is quite familiar to me ( I mean the word, obviously  ;D) and as for doggo I only got it because I remembered that it had come up before. I don't know what it means: I actually thought it must be some Australian slang word, like a cross between a "dingo" and a "drongo" or something  ;D

Me too. I've only ever heard it in the phrase lying doggo, lying still, pretending to be asleep but waiting to pounce.
COD labels it '19th century, of obscure origin'.
The semi-literate spell-check attached to the forum has red-squiggly-lined it.
I think Chi's usual policy with words that are only ever seen as part of a phrase is to make them 'uncommon'.

Actually, the spell-check is part of your web browser. If you right-click on a word so marked, you can almost certainly add the word to its dictionary.

Thanks for all of the feedback, i am now satisfied that ganja & jingo are classified correctly.
Doggo was challenged by Yelnats in 2018...decision pending.
