Well, today was Maudland's day to shine as our solitary rosetteer on 29 common words - well done Madeleine...  ;D

There were four rosettenears with doxydaisy, dragonman, Jancsika and Roddles all failing by the narrowest of margins  :'(

ozzyjune was the sole diminutive being two short of the mark on twenty seven with blackrockrose and rogue_mother a further word back. yelnats was next on twenty five followed by me on twenty three - of the six words I missed LACUNA was one I was never going to get!!!

Amongst the rest of us, vizal scored twenty one and auntiemo managed a creditable nineteen.

Every effort is a good effort in this challenging puzzle!!!

I missed three sitters: actual, catcall and titanic.

Jancsika, statistically you are most likely to have missed lacuna, like RTT, so that's my guess

I also missed lacuna and like you John would never have got it no matter how long I played.

I'll have a guess Jancsika .. is it tactician?

Jancsika, I surmise the type style of your post provides the clue.

BRR, I don't understand your use of the word sitter in this context. Is that Aussie slang?

I missed catcall, one of my blind spots, a word that I certainly know but almost never find. I also missed italic and uncut.

Not just Aussie, but British too. To "miss a sitter' means to miss an easy chance to score a goal in football, for example.

I’m not sporty, but even I’ve heard of ‘missing a sitter’ - so it’s definitely British too!

I was glad I stuck at it yesterday - I’d have been miffed to miss my Last Word. Why do we overlook the super-common words sometimes? What kind of brain sees LACUNA way ahead of ACTUAL ?? (No need to answer that …)

Well today the rosetteer club contained just two of our members - ozzyjune and Maudland - well done both of you on finding all 38 common words!!!

Rosettenears must have been frustrated by that last word - what were they doxydaisy and Roddles???

Today there were no diminutives but rogue_mother was three short on 35. I followed on 34 missing the ANTENNA/ANTENNAE pair as well as ENTENTE and TENANT - I must be a slow learner as I'm sure I've complained about entente before!

33 was a popular score with blackrockrose, yelnats, Jancsika and ozzyjack all falling 5 short of the requisite number while auntiemo was one further back on 32. vizal completed the puzzle with a score of 30 just 8 off the pace.

I wonder what today's puzzle will bring and what words others missed out on???
