SPOILER: 26th March 10-letter puzzle
« on: March 27, 2021, 02:40:13 PM »
I’d like to suggest UNGIVEN as a possible rare word

e.g. a person not ungiven to words; or a person ungiven to compliments

The greenest watt ever produced is the one you never use. Playing as jk1956 & John is my name.
When we come out of the Covid-19 crisis, we need to make sure recovery efforts address the Climate Crisis (which can't be solved using social distancing!)

I've edited the subject line of this post, ridethetalk.

Please don't post about a puzzle that hasn't closed yet, with the 10-letter word in caps in the subject, making it display alongside the puzzle for anyone who's still working on it!

Sorry Alan (and others) - my bad.
I have an open word document that I put these in and then post once the puzzle closes.

Yesterday, I posted 2 suggestions and the second one should have waited.  :o  :o  :o

Maybe I should desist with putting the seed word in the title.

I prefer the seed word in the title; much more useful. But after the puzzle has closed!  ;D

Ungiven is listed in Merriam-Webster, the Shorter Oxford and Wiktionary.

The two examples you give, ridethetalk, show the word meaning not partial to. It can also have the more literal meaning of not given. Here in Victoria, Australia, the Transport Accident commission used "Ungiven Gifts" as the theme of a pre-Christmas road safety campaign in 2013. And Gifts Ungiven is apparently the name of a card in the game Magic The Gathering.

The word seems to crop up also from time to time in sports reports, in relation to umpiring decisions, or non-decisions:

Quote
Error-wise, the ungiven penalty and the unshown card are no more or less controversial than the given penalty and the shown one.

I'll add ungiven as a rare word.

Thanks Alan and apologies to anyone who I inadvertently gifted the seed word...
