Maths question
« on: December 02, 2020, 06:16:54 AM »
This was posted on Facebook - people who attempted it posted many different answers. Some even helpfully explained in detail how they arrived at their (incorrect) answer.

If you want to post your answer, don't give any clues as to how you solved it. It's not a trick question.

The answer is 15.

There are 2 parts to the exercise.

1
Careful observation of the actual question.

2
An understanding of fundamental arithmetic and the order of operators ( often called BODMAS ).

It depends on which order of operations one uses!

I've had another look, put on my glasses & got closer to the screen.
It seems so obvious now.
Well done Michael.

There is only one order of operations used in arithmetic, that is bodmas.
In the final line of the problem, the multiplication has to be done before the addition.

Speaking of Pi

Did you hear about the explosion at the Pie Factory ?
It was so loud, it could be heard from 3.141 miles away.

Ah, but if the problem is done with a calculator .... !

Another pi joke for algebra fans...

Q: what is the volume of a pizza if the radius  is z and the height is a?
A: pi•z•z•a
