Christine,  I am sure Boris, his great mate, could find a job for him.  He did for our Tony Abbott.

Holy moly. What a mess it is to witness our own place in the moral hierarchy at great distance from the deplorables. Even I -from my own lofty perch- observed myself classifying strangers by their demeanor into Buffoons/spiritually bankrupt morons or
Biden supporters (if only by default).

Someone on this highly educated forum must know who actually said be careful whom you choose for your enemies for you will become like them.

I expect Boris will give him a government grant to set up a company supplying bleach products to the NHS.

Dear Forumites:

Four years ago, I was trembling in horror at the result of the US Presidential election.

Today, I am relieved at the result.

However, an element of horror remains: this election was close, close, close, and that means there are millions of Americans who voted for our former president. What an ominous disgrace.

The Senate will most likely remain in Republican hands, which will make progress nearly impossible. Robert (my better half) and I spent hours and hours and hundreds of dollars working to 'flip the Senate' back into Democratic hands. Some success occurred, but, unless there's a miracle in Georgia, we're still stuck with Mitch McConnell running the show there.

I hear you, Chi-folk all over the world: what happens here affects everyone on every continent. Trust me: we'll keep working for a saner country that can engage internationally in a way that can help us feel like citizens of the world again.

Wish us good fortune, we'll need it!

and the very best wishes to you all,

nineoaks

It's a great result but there's no chance of Trump going peacefully into the night. It's probably bad news for us, but wonderful to think that Johnson is probably crapping himself at the thought of losing his buddy. And egg on the face of the revolting Nigel Farage who adores Trump and was confident that he'd get a second term. Schadenfreude.

The right result indeed, and good luck to the new President and V-P.

As Pat said in an earlier post, the fact that more than 70 million were persuaded to vote for another four years of trumpery shows just how divided the US really is.

I wish the Biden/Harris partnership well, but I fear that without control of the Senate and the Supreme Court their hands will be tied.
Most especially they will be unable to do very much to solve the biggest problem facing the US today, that of gun-control.

I understand some of the comments above and see that the last four years of US politics has been somewhat crazy. However, one cannot lay the all the blame at Trump's feet. From Day One, the establishment was out to get a man that did not fit the political narrative. They came at him with lies (he himself was also guilty of those) and collusion, and a determination to undo the Choice of the American people. One could argue he invited such assault by his words to "drain the swamp". I do not find it difficult to believe that such a swamp does exist in the highest echelons of politics. The reason I wanted to Trump to win was quite simply that I did not wish to see the destructive social engineering of the far left of American politics, engineering that will affect much of the rest of the western world and possibly beyond, such is the influence and reach of American society, politics and philosophy. Trump was true to what he said he would do; he restored the economy, he lifted employment across the social divide, he stood for traditional family values and, perhaps most importantly, he stood for the rights of the unborn human being. I am concerned that too much of the radical far left has the ear of President-elect Biden (he, too, is a flawed character as recent revelations have shown) which will hold too much influence on his policies. Whoever had won the presidency, America is a divided nation and in a perilous position going forward and we all can potentially be deeply and negatively affected by it. It seems it was fun to hate and lampoon him and too easy to thump Trump and echo the pop-voice of a largely uninformed crowd.

There really is little/ no hope for a country which is so clearly polarised.
That covers USA & unfortunately UK.
How about the rest of the world where chihuahuans live?

he stood for traditional family values and, perhaps most importantly, he stood for the rights of the unborn human being.

On the first issue, I judge a man by his actions and not his words, particularly if he is a blatant obsessive liar, and I can't believe even Trump's most ardent follower can believe he is a paragon of family values.

The second issue has been discussed extensively before in this forum and I have nothing to add, except to point out it is a contentious issue.

Was he 'the choice of the American people', though?
In 2016, Hillary Clinton polled three million more votes than Trump.

Following the 2016 EU Exit referendum, 'Brexiters' never tired of telling us that the result - a simple majority in favour of UK leaving the EU - represented 'the will of the people'.  If the 2016 US election had been decided by a simple majority of votes cast, Trump would never have got to within a mile of the front door of the White House.

Like a chastised child, Trump is currently either isolated on the golf course or holed up in the White House with little to say, leaving it all up to his lawyers.
My concern is that when he finally accepts that he has lost, what sort of petulant retribution or mischief will he get up to.
My limited understanding is that he remains the President until Biden is inaugurated in the middle of January.
So that gives Trump another 2 months to cause all sorts of strife as i'm sure that he will not want to go quietly.

P.S.
Can the President give himself a Presidential pardon from any prosecutions? >:D

This came to me in an email with the caption One small step for man, one giant step for humanity..

I am a bit ashamed to be passing it on but it is difficult not to experience Schadenfreude

Thanks for reminding me of the word, Pat

I don't know if he can pardon himself or not, but I've seen it suggested that he could resign, making Mike Pence president until Biden is inaugurated, then Pence could pardon him.

far left of American politics,

From my view the "far left of American politics" would be fairly right wing in Western Europe.  And the US doesn't seem to worry about the school children massacred by gun-toting loonies.
