Forum has new home
« on: October 22, 2019, 03:34:06 PM »
If you can read this, you've been successfully redirected to the new home of the forum, https://theforum.lexigame.com.

I hope this will clear up some of the problems people have been having when trying to get to the forum. Please let me know of anything that's not working properly.

As far as I can see, the forum summary is showing correctly beside the Chi puzzle at both addresses, but I'm not sure about the appearance of the "New" icon on posts you haven't yet looked at.

The 'New' icon is working perfectly for me, Alan.

Obviously I've managed to get through to the 'new' forum on the lexigame.com site.

Different matter on Chi.Puzzle. however.

All I get on there is a huge message - '403 - Access Forbidden'.

Very ominous.

Forget the above, Alan.
Everything seems ok now.
I can even see the Forum on my smartphone!
Yippee!

Sorry to be such a pain, Alan, but logging on to the forum via Chi Puzzle, I got the same response as yesterday - '403 - Access forbidden'.

Again, no problem with getting on through Lexigame.

You're not the only person this is happening to, MK. I've had emails from someone else with the same problem, and it looks from the log files as if there are others getting that 403 message.

Does this message appear when you click on one of the items in the forum summary next to the puzzle, or did you click on the Forum link at the top of the page? And when you're at the alternate Chi site, does the displayed address include a "www" before the "chihuahua-puzzle"?

It's an irregular fault, Alan. For example, at the moment I seem to be able to access the forum normally from both sites.
However, just before starting to play the new Challenge game using the Chi Puzzle site I got the '403' message each time I tried to access the various items on the forum.
I'm writing this reply using Chi Puzzle.
This is the URL at the top of the page

06.30 (GMT+7)

Got the 403 message again trying to access my own reply using Chi puzzle.

This is the URL that I got

https://theforum.lexigame.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=lphnh7po8koprb7bubqaehsii2&topic=4094.msg62674;topicseen#new

0715 (GMT + 7) Okay again.

No problems at all on Lexigame, only on ChiPuzzle.

It appears that it's that bit of the URL that starts with "PHPSESSID" that's causing the problem, but I don't know how it's getting into the link.

From the log files it seemed that you're using Internet Explorer 11. So I fired up that browser on my computer and, lo and behold, I got the same error! But while I was investigating the problem, it suddenly went away. The PHPSESSID parameter disappeared and everything was working OK. As you say, MK, it's intermittent.

A new forum problem that I'm getting is the reverse of the intermittent problem whereby new posts weren't showing as new. I'm now finding that having read a new post, if I click on the forum update button the post still shows as new.

Update

Also, having successfully posted this comment it didn't show in the forum until I refreshed the Chi page. I didn't have to do that before.

Second update

Since first making the post the refresh button is now working again! Most peculiar.

It should now be possible to get to a forum post from the chihuahua-puzzle site without any risk of getting a 403 access forbidden message instead. To make sure you pick up this correction, refresh the chihuahua-puzzle page.

Working okay except for the 'new' image. Not seeing any of those.

On my devices - desktop and mobile - the New icon does not appear on the chihuahua-puzzle site when using the Chrome browser. I don't know if this is the same for everybody. And I don't know what the cause is. Perhaps it's some privacy protection that prevents cookies being sent with a call to another site. From my testing there seemed to be no problems in Firefox, Safari or Edge.

Which Chihuahua site do you use, TRex, and what browser?

Muddying the waters even more......

My PC browser is Windows Explorer.
I can now access the Forum using both Chi-Puzzle and Lexigame.
I never see the 'New' flags when using Chi-Puzzle at all.
I can see the 'New' flags when using Lexigame, but they don't disappear after I've read the message.
The only way I can clear these flags is by clicking on the 'refresh' icon at the top right-hand corner of the Forum.

Never mind. It works better than it did a couple of weeks ago. I'm happy!!
