Help with windows 10
« on: June 20, 2019, 02:57:09 AM »
I need help from one of the formulites that knows about computers.
I have recently bought a new computer with windows 10 loaded . I cannot get my printer to work and all the advice from Microsoft is aimed at those that know what they are doing...I am not one of them. My printer is a HP Photosmart model C4180.
I would appreciate an Idiots Guide ( you cannot make it too simple ) from someone.

Many Thanks

This might be helpful

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-other_settings/my-hp-photosmart-c4180-not-workinging-for-windows/638fe0c0-05b3-4bf9-a94d-09e66c35a3ab

I had a similar problem with my (very old) Photosmart P1000 when I tried to attach it to a different computer. In the end I had to make the computer believe the printer was a different model. That made it work, but in strange ways. If I want to print a document starting at page 1 I have to tell it to print in reverse order, i.e. starting with the last page, and I have to take each page out of the tray as soon as it prints or the printer tries to snatch it back. Weird. But the printer must be getting on for 20 years old and still going strong.

Go to https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Photosmart-C4100-All-in-One-Printer-series/1142450/model/1142452

The page will try to detect your operating system. You didn't say whether you were using Windows 10 32-bit or Windows 10 64-bit. But the page will most likely get it correct for you. There will be a link labelled 'Download'. Download the file and run it. It should set everything up for you.

Reminds me of back in the day when I and several of my co-workers gathered around the printer, waiting for our output.

I told them we were playing at being Walt Disney.

Some . . . day . . . my prints . . . will come . . .
Carpe digitus.
(Roughly translated, this is possibly the world's oldest "pull my finger" joke)
