SPOILER - 7-by-many 7 April 2019

Alan, I think I may have discovered an anomaly and you know how much I love to find anomalies as a challenge for you … recolor is happily accepted but not recolour - it's not known.

Word cheers,

Awesome. May I say I admire your prowess and speed Rhino. You don't post often but you sure do get a lot of rosettes!

I also noticed this "anomaly", but after a bit of thought it did not seem particularly strange. To my way of thinking, people who use the "-our" ending typically tend to use hyphens when using the "re-" prefix and would be averse to dropping the said hyphens. In addition many dictionaries do not list every single instance of when the "re-" prefix can be used. For either or both of these reasons, or some other, Alan's dictionary sources did not contain recolour when recolor was included. Recolour does now appear in online dictionaries, including Wiktionary, Collins and the Oxford Dictionaries, so perhaps Alan will see fit to add it to the Chihuahua lexicon.

In future recolour, recoloured and recolouring will be accepted as rare words.

(Recolouring is the first word longer than 10 letters that has been added since the word list was extended to allow longer words for 7-by-many puzzles.)

I don't think recolor really qualifies as a common word, so it becomes rare. Recolored and recoloring were already rare.
