I saw that Tom and it was a good article.  Another one I found interesting brings out that although there is a great diversity in being Australian, we generally have a common characteristic, not always appreciated, even by the British.

I think this is basically the same article as the one posted by Mike from the BBC, although the BBC story doesn't provide the writer's name. Both stories are about the YouGov survey.

What I find most interesting is Eastern European cultures tend to prefer open disagreement: someone always agreeing is considered dull and uninteresting whereas Anglo-American-Australian culture sees open disagreement as impolite. In response, the English (much more than Americans) have become masters of the subtle put-down.
