Strange nature of today's Standard puzzle (2018/05/30)
« on: May 30, 2018, 11:44:11 AM »
This one's another weird one. Made it to "better", but ALL my words begin with the compulsory letter. Can't find any words for this puzzle that don't.

Will probably find some obvious ones in tomorrow's solution, along with the usual raft that make me think "is that really a word in the English language?" :D

I've noticed that this kind of thing often happens when B is the key letter.

As for today's game, and without giving anything away.... believe me, you will know all the words in this game that don't start with the letter you refer to.

I've only just started today's game, but I see what you mean, Calilasseia: I've got a couple of uncommon words not starting with the central letter, but the only common one so far is one I had never seen before I started playing Chi - and I've never seen it since outside Chi! I'll plod on.

Thanks for the tip Cal,
I was going to concentrate on the current 10 letter game as it closes shortly just to see if I could finally " knock off " doxydaisy ( well i'm allowed to dream ) but your post caught my eye & I had to see what you were on about, the first 20 words that I played all began with the same letter before I finally started to find a few alternatives.

Oh Les you don't need to dream to 'knock me off' .. there are way better players than me here but it was lovely that you mentioned me in such a kind way so thank you for that!  :)

Now that you have dipped your toes into the forum,  be warned that posting can become just as addictive as playing Chi so put your thinking cap on because you only need 13 more posts to catch up to the sister in law.

Hahaha Les I think she will outdo me with the posts as well as the puzzles. As she mentioned she is very competitive and I know that first hand. I'll think twice before I play euchre with her again hehe!

Speaking of very good, is Alonzo Quixote real? Or is it a measure to show the highest level you can achieve?

I find it interesting when Alonzo is playing at the same time as me, or starting after. I think, "Wow, I've got the same score (or close) to Alonzo." When the scores next update, he's miles ahead!

AQ is a real player, but one who plays by different 'rules'. Long-standing forum members will recall many threads concerning him and other 'top' players who get every possible word, rare and common, in all three puzzles, every day. I admire their tenacity and high boredom threshold!

And his twin - Alfonzo Coyote, who makes the occasional appearance?

You hit the nail on the head there Pat.. high boredom threshhold. It truly must be boring to get every single word in every puzzle every single day. If this is so easy wouldn't you move on to something a little more challenging when you're that good.

Pat, you forgot the 100% accuracy in every puzzle.  >:D
