I only just realised there was a calendar!

The custom of sending birthday greetings to forumites who have disclosed their birthdays has largely fallen into disuse. This might be because the messages were starting to become rather formulaic. Also, if many people get birthday wishes, someone who misses out is likely to feel miffed.

Pen, do you remember from several months ago when Alan was having some issues with " baddies " trying to hack into his site.
As usual, our wonderful administrator came up with solutions to protect his users but he did warn
that providing too much personal information in our profile such as age & date of birth was probably not a good idea so without that info in your profile, you will not get the birthday alerts.

Seeing this date format causes me to make a plug for the ISO (International Organization for Standardization) standard for dates which is far and away the most logical. Like other numeric values, left-to-right goes from most significant to least significant which has the bonus of having an alphabetical sort in a computer place items in date order.

There is a lot of detail in the Wikipedia article, but for just the date it is the four-digit year, a hyphen, the two-digit month with a leading zero if needed, a hyphen, and the two-digit date with a leading zero if needed. Thus: 1959-11-19

I’m sure those of you who worked in IT can remember the chaos when 19 became 20. I spent a year of my working life making all of our mainframe computer systems ‘Y2K’ compliant. What a job that was.
