It seems like there is an abundance of it and you can't even drink it. Just as well I prefer beer to water.

Your rebus satisfied my criteria but we had that poem to study at school, so I didn't have to look it up.

It was overcaste here but the pool was still 28oC, so I got my swim in.

I'll change the subject to a trilogy of novels from around WWII that was used as a much later TV series, although I had not heard of it.  It must be English, probably set in your neck of the woods.

I'm very pleased to have met your exacting standards Jack   I also did it at school and I remember reading it with my Dad.

I very much enjoyed your rebus  :)  You are spot on!  It's set very near here.  The wonderful Victoria Wood, sadly no longer with us, did a great spoof of it.  I'll post a small snippet in a day or two when others have had a chance to solve the rebus.

I'm all at sixes and sevens with the change in the clocks  ???  I'm going to give the little grey cell a small workout then watch a bit of toot telly!

Hi Pen,

All I meant by “Your rebus satisfied my criteria” was that I solved it within 15 minutes.  I don’t set standards for anyone but myself.

My rebus today is a movie that according to its write-up examines double standards.  It might be interesting.

7( #3 #4)  6( #3  #3)

What I call the insect in picture 1. Discard the last 3 letters.  Discard the first 2 letters in picture 2.  Discard the first 5 letters in picture 3.  Discard the first 6 letters in picture 4.

Conceptually all on one line. no tricks with the order.  An apostrophe to be inserted.

Hi Jack

I'm sorry! That was my feeble attempt at humour - which failed miserably

I got your excellent rebus at the third time of asking.  I'm obviously a bit more awake now than I was at 6.30am    It does sound interesting.

I'm on fracture clinic this morning so I'm going to plod along with my rebus and hope to get it finished by lunchtime.
It's a fairly recent film.  It's described on rotten tomatoes as 'bloody good fun'.  Not really my cup of tea.

#4 #2 #2 2 #3 #7

Three consecutive letters from picture one.  You need the character on the left in picture two - please use the first three letters and make a homophone.  Just the first two letters of picture four. One more homophone and position is vitally important.

Victoria Wood

I know it's daft but this just tickled me!  Nearly lunchtime hurrah  :-H

Hi Pen,

A frightening thing to wake up to but a great rebus.  If I have got it right it was produced  by our mates from across the ditch and the idea was pinched by the Yanks who have produced a TV series which is now in series 6.  The locale has shifted from Wellington to Staten Island.

Must get back to sleep but I will leave you with the usual gift.

Hi Jack

I'm having a funny bitty old day today.  The time's gone very quickly and it's only two hours until home time  :)

I thought I'd do a quick entry into the competition for the easiest peasiest rebus ever

It's a film from the 1940's.

#3 #3 #3

First name of gent on the right in picture one and make a homophone.  Please use three consecutive letters from the middle of picture two and it's straightforward.

I'm very short and sweet today   >:D  Almost home time  :-C

Thanks Jack.  I was going to ask if that's what you might call a Pyrrhic victory? But as there was no loss involved I don't think that's right.  How about a hollow victory?

I'm feeling a bit knacked this evening  :-Y  I think that wretched hour is still wreaking it's revenge  >:D

Hi Pen.

My rebus this morning is part of a quote by Winston Churchill.
Conceptually one line but position is vitally important

#1  #6,  #7  2  #1  #7, 6 #2 ##6

Discard the first letter in picture 1 and use the middle letter of pictures 2 and 4.  The word for picture 5 is past tense.  Picture 7 is a type (no pun intended) of machine.

Hi Jack

That's a cracking rebus - clever and very enjoyable  :)

It took me a few attempts.  I vaguely remembered the quote but couldn't recall it correctly!  I had to get my pen and paper out but got there in the end

I had a busy morning at work and then had to visit the dentist this afternoon so my day just ran away with me.  I'll be back tomorrow to try and stretch your little grey cells!  I'm very glad it's Thursday tomorrow  :)
