Hi Jack

It's grey and gloomy here today.  I'm missing that lovely sunshine from yesterday.  I've been up to Barbs for a walk, cuppa and catch up  :)  Zoe will be here later and she's staying over which is brilliant  :)

A quick puzzle from me today.  It's a song from about fifty odd years ago.  I've had it as an ear worm since yesterday

#5 #3 #4 #4

What is the gent in picture one doing?  Please lose the last three letters and change the middle letter for a different vowel. You need the middle two letters of picture two and add an extra letter at the front. Last four letters (of eight) of picture three.  Where is the joey in picture four?  Please replace the first two letters with a single letter from the middle of the alphabet.  We're all on one line.

"British people are like coconuts. Hard on the outside but sweet once you crack us. Also, often found full of alcohol and holding an umbrella.

Need to get on with a few chores  :(  This tickled my silly sense of humour

Woo hoo!!

A couple of days ago there was a major change to the forecast with a good rain predicted for overnight. And it happened!! The local airport recorded 1.14 inches (29mm) of rain; my rain gauge recorded 1.19 inches (30.2mm). It is the most rain since 28 August.

The tomatoes and peppers continue to live and produce. A freeze is forecast for tomorrow night followed by a rebound in temperatures. Tuesday's high is currently forecast to be 81°F (27.2°C) so the wacky weather continues.

Hurrah!  That's fantastic news.  Did you dance around the garden and rejoice?

Your weather is completely bonkers  :o  I was just telling Zoe about it and she looked at me like I'd gone mad!!

I hope your tomatoes and peppers survive the frost.

Hi Pen,
You didn’t tell me whether I had solved your rebus.

As Zoe is there with you, I have come out of retirement to present a quick and easy rebus in your style.

The subject is a religious and military leader.  He was very well known in America and rode in President Theodore Roosevelt’s inauguration parade.  I’ve probably given the game away but I’ll go through the motions anyway.

Everybody knows the actor in the first picture. He is married to Amal Alamuddin.  Just take 3 consecutive letters from his name and replace the last letter with one nearer the end of the alphabet.  You need to take 3 consecutive letters from the 9 letter car in picture 2.  In My Opinion this is my easiest clue.  Position is vitally important.

I might have danced around the garden had it been daylight (it rained from about 11pm to 5am local), but I certainly rejoiced!

The weather certainly is bonkers, but perhaps that is why it is so often said 'If you don't like the weather, wait 15 minutes'.

I've mixed feelings about the plants surviving: nice to keep getting harvests (just harvested some tomatoes), but I'm w-a-y behind the time for sowing a green manure crop and am becoming increasingly doubtful there will be sufficient warmth for it to get established before it stays too cold.

Hi Jack

Sorry!  I didn't think I needed to as you'd obviously solved it

I'm probably being really thick but I can't get a handle on yours at all.  It's going to be one of those where I go...

My offering is something that took place nigh on 50 years ago.

I like to imagine the guy who invented the umbrella was going to call it the 'brella'. But he hesitated!

Hi Pen.

I am sorry you are having problems with my rebus.  I understand only to well how difficult it is to find roughly defined letters when you don't already know the answer.  I am reluctant to give further clues until others have a chance to go at it although I would encourage others to be more charitable than me.  A clue might be that Zoe might have said the word, as people are prone to do, when she undertook an adventure that I think you have said you wouldn't contemplate.

Your rebus was a heavy-weight.  I understand the 50th anniversary is next Wednesday.

Got it now thanks Jack  :)  I actually did think that was the answer earlier on but dismissed it for some strange reason without checking properly  :-R  Numpty!

You are, of course, spot on  :)

Going to have a dither over which film I might like to watch in a bit!

 Hi Pen,

I'll try for a more user friendly rebus this morning. People should let me know if it is too user friendly.

The subject is a well known Australian poem.

The character count for the pictures is 4 3 12  3
The character count for the words is  6 2 3 8

Word 1 is got by concatenating pictures 1&2 and making a homophone of the result.
Word 2 is got by extracting letters 11 and 12 of picture 3.
Word 3 is got by extracting letters 4-6 of picture 3.
Word 4 is got by concatenating a preposition not pictured and a 4-letter homophone of picture 4.

Additional Clues.

You need a Scottish term for the mob in picture 1,  picture 2 is what you see is what you get.  The Drizabone Coat in picture 3 is an Australian icon. You need a description of one of its qualities. You are interested in the woman in Picture 4.  Pictures 1-3 are conceptionally on line 1, Picture 4 on line 2.

Hi Carol,
-
I knew that one was a gimme.

How did you find the previous one.  I was trying to prove a point with it.   My idea of a good rebus is that it takes someone of your ability between 10-15 minutes to solve and then gives you something to think about  further after you have solved it.

Hi Jack

It's a beautiful sunny Autumn day here.  I've been out for a walk  :)

Your rebus fried my brain a bit   It took me well over 15 minutes but I did get there in the end. My ability was sadly lacking!  I looked it up on Ms Google and it's brilliant  :)

I'll see your poem and offer one of my own (not composed by me obviously )

#3 #4 #2 #3 7 (#2 + #5) #7

Please use three consecutive letters from the middle of pictures one and four.  Change the first letter of picture two and use two consecutive letters from picture three. Please make a homophone of the last three letters of picture five and also make a homophone of picture six. You need to swap the last letter of picture seven to an adjacent one.  We're all on one line.

Hi Pen,

It seems like there is an abundance of it and you can't even drink it. Just as well I prefer beer to water.

It was overcaste here but the pool was still 28oC, so I got my swim in.

Your rebus satisfied my criteria but we had that poem to study at school, so I didn't have to look it up.

I'll change the subject to a trilogy of novels from around WWII that was used as a much later TV series, although I had not heard of it.  It must be English, probably set in your neck of the woods.

#4 #4 #2  10(#6  #4)

Conceptually all on one line. no tricks with the order.

The bird in picture 1 is the horned variety.  Remove the first 3 letters of picture 2.  Use the first two letters of picture 3.  Add a "d" to the knights weapon in Picture 4 and then use the anagram.

I have match-sticks holding open my eyelids, so advise any obvious errors.
