Hi Penny
Us Yorkshire folk certainly declare that "You know what thought did - thought wrong!" This was usually used in my childhood household if I had over stepped the mark in some way with my expectations. Obviously not often as I was a model daughter! Christine.

I did get slightly diverted for a little while as I was convinced the second picture was marmalade  :-R

Hi Pen

The second picture was Marmalade and marmalade is a 3 letter word. just as border Collie is a 3 letter word, dog.

Do I get a bonus point for pointing out the answer to your rebus is in German not English and it is a is a comic opera in three acts composed by Richard Strauss with an original German libretto by Hugo von Hofmannsthal.

Thanks Christine  :)  In my head I can hear my Dad saying those exact words.  How funny.  Unlike you I don't think I was a model daughter as he seemed to say it quite often   Pen

I think that might be worth two bonus points Jack  ;)

I'm off to give the little grey cell a small work out.  It's turned rather chilly here.  I had to take my summer duvet off this morning and put a warmer one on for the moment.

Hi Pen,

A model is a small imitation of the real thing.   I think you would have fitted the role perfectly.  ;)

My rebus is a single 20-letter word.  It's a common occurrence at the moment, not only in Australia.

Component 1. Picture 1 (7).  Any one of them.

Component 2. Picture 2 (5).

Component 3 ( 8 ). Picture 3 (7 7).  Add an "r" between the "t" and the "a" in the second word.

Hi Jack

The weather can't seem to make up it's mind at the moment.  One minute it's sunny the next it looks like rain.  Job to know what clothes to put on

I enjoyed your rebus  :)  My offering today is a story featuring a famous detective.  That narrows the field down a bit  >:D

1 7 (#4 + #3) 2 7 (#2 + #3 + #2)

You might enjoy picture three with your curry - two words.  You need the second word and lose the second letter.  How would I refer to picture four? seven letters.  Please lose the first and last three letters. The lady in picture five is singing a bit of an opera by herself (four letters).  Last two letters please.  One homophone and position is vitally important.

Murphy's Law - "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong".
But what is Cole’s Law?
It’s thinly slice cabbage, carrot and mayo.
Leave you with a really naff joke  ;D

Word 5 (6). Picture 3 (6 4).  Use the first word

Hi Jack

It was a beautiful warm sunny morning here.  I had lovely walk with Barbs  :)  It's a bit cloudy and cooler now.  They're forecasting thunder storms tomorrow  :(

My congratulations on a cracking rebus  :)  Very enjoyable.

My rebus is a fairly recent film.

#5 #7 3 #7 #5

THE

Please use the first name of the gent in picture one.  Past tense for picture two and make a homophone.  Present tense for picture three and change the first letter to one nearer the middle of the alphabet.  Please ignore the beer in picture four and pretend it's all on one line.

My neightbour Richard told me that when he asked his wife where she wanted to go on holiday, she said that being married to him was one long holiday.
When I commented that was a nice thing to say to him, Richard replied, "Well, actually, what she said was I was the 'last resort.'"

Number one daughter has just arrived - I'd better make her a cuppa

Hi Pen,

Uriah Heap indeed!.  He was a drunk and a crook.  Now I know what you think of me.  :D

What is fairly recent? the 1998 or 2016 version?

I must go and saw some wood.  :-Z

Hi Again Jack

I have to be honest - I've never read David Copperfield.  I've tried to read a few Charles Dickens books and sorry to say I failed miserably.  Zoe's read loads and loves them.  The only thing I know about Uriah Heep is that he said "I'm a very 'umble person!"

I'd forgotten there was an earlier version so I was thinking of the 2016 version.

No pink muck for me tonight!  I've got a very good sauv blanc from your neighbours across the way  ;)
I know you enjoy a tipple but I'd never call you a drunk or a crook  >:D

I have to be honest

You don't have to be, Pen, but we prefer it when you are.  ;)

Continuing with the Oxford connection, my easy rebus is a 2023 novel that I am reading which got fantastic reviews but which I have found is not quite my cup of Builders.

Word 1.  A vowel (not pictured)

Word 2 (3).  Picture 1 (6).  A Movie.  Use first letters.  Make anagram

Word 3.
Component 1. The vowel in Word 1.
 Component 2. Picture 2 ( 3 4 6).  Use the middle word.

And a lesson for you, Pen.

Hi Jack

The Met Office have issued a weather warning for thunderstorms for us today  :(  I'm hoping they miss us and I wont have to get into my hidey hole   I've been out for a walk - just in case!

My lesson tickled me.  I probably should spend quite a bit of time on the naughty step   >:D

My rebus is a book by a British lady.  I can't remember if you've read any of her books.
Amazon describe it as 'a pulse-racing thriller you won't be able to put down.'

Picture one (six letters) please change the first letter and lose the last three letters.  Picture two - what is in the little bottle (4 + 7)? Please lose a letter from the second word.  First name of gent in picture three and lose the first letter.  We're all on one line.  Please have a bonus point if you can name the author.

For my next trick I will eat a percussion instrument in a bap...
Drum roll please!

It's lunchtime  :-H

Hi Pen,

Great Rebus.  Is this enough to get a bonus point?

Quote

In the land of mist and heather,
A tale-spinner was born in Fife's embrace,
Crafting worlds of dark endeavor,
She carved out her own space.

From the realm of Scottish state schooling,
She emerged with a trailblazing mind,
To Oxford's halls, she went ruling,
A pathfinder of her kind.

With a mind sharp as thistles,
She weaves her tales so bold,
In the highlands and the lowlands,
Her stories are told.

A queen of crime and mystery,
Her pen a sword, her wit a shield,
She battles through history,
In the literary field.

Her characters, complex and driven,
Face their fears, their fate, their doom,
In pages tightly written,
They find their way, they bloom.

So here's to the weaver of plots,
From Fife's shores to Oxford's gates,
Her words make the heart race in trots,
In this vast narrative space.
