It pains me to say it, Pen, but you may be the winner so far.  :D

A great rebus.   Moyra will really enjoy it.

Blue is an avid collector of quirky headlines.  Being Blue, he must make a comment on each.  Here is a selection from his scrap book.

Hi Again Jack

Does that mean I get a trophy?  >:D  Can I have the equivalent of the Green Jacket? Very happy that Jan Rahm triumphed and on what would have been Seve's birthday  :)

It popped into my head "Will Moyra enjoy the rebus or the film or both?"

I loved the headlines - made me laugh out loud.  I'd completely forgotten them and very pleased you dug them out

Off to search for a few words before I conk out in my chair in front of the box!

Hi Pen,

I know you are fond of a homophone, so I thought you might appreciate these related limericks.

There was a young fellow named Cholmondeley,
Whose bride was so mellow and colmondeley
That the best man, Colquhoun,
An inane young bolqufoun,
Could only stand still and stare dolmondeley.

A young man called Cholmondeley Colquhoun
Kept as a pet a babolquhoun.
His mother said, “Cholmondeley,
Do you think it quite colmondeley
To feed your babolquhoun with a spolquhoun?

I am too tired to look for new cartoons.   Remember these?

I wonder if anyone would notice if I had 40 winks >:D

Hi Jack

I did appreciate the limericks and the cartoons really tickled me   I can only remember one of them!

I've been up to Barb's and we managed a quick walk in between showers.  At the rate the puddles are growing I'll soon have to swap my car for a canoe

I have an idea for a rebus and am hoping you don't have to remind me when I used it before!

It's a book and a film.

Please lose the last letter of picture one and then change the final letter.  There are two homophones.  You need the first name of the inspector (we know somebody who'll be all over that >:D) and please pretend it's all on one line.

Leave you with a couple of naff jokes  ;D

I had a niggling feeling I'd used this before but I have searched so here's hoping I'm wrong ;D

Hi Pen,

When I worked out your latest rebus, I was absolutely sure that I had never heard of the book or the movie.  Ironically, when you raised the question of had it been used before, I couldn’t resist having a look and found that not only had you used the subject before but I had published an extensive write-up in a spoiler alert.  I cannot be sure that the October, 2021 rebus wasn’t a repeat because from time to time I go back and delete Spoiler alerts that are over 2 years old.  My good memory is a function of google ability rather than mental agility.  I suffer from “old fella’s disease” more often than I care to admit.

As I commented in a recent post, so long as the construction of the rebus is sufficiently different it doesn’t matter if the subject has been used before, even if quite recently.  Some of Mike’s subjects are worth repeating.  So, I make a commitment not to comment on whether a rebus has been used before if you do not raise the question in my mind. :)

On your latest rebus I think the clue you used previously was more accurate, so long as the ball wasn't edged.   :D

Another thing I’ve noticed in looking through my old posts is how many pictures have disappeared.  I think this is perhaps that I have used URLs from commercial ads which have a limited currency.  I will try to avoid using these to the extent I can.

Gotta go.

Hi Pen,

Déjà vu time. I’ve picked a day in August 2021.

Mike introduced a rebus like this.

Quote
He first appeared -in print - in 1933.
After that he was seen in umpteen books, films and tv shows – and never lost!
 Amazing!

You need to tell me his name and the title of that first novel.

1. two words - 5/5; 2. six words - 3/4/2/3/6/5

I have repictured it.

#5  #5

Picture 1. Real name -Pierino Ronald Como. What was his nickname?
Picture 2. How is your French.  Make Homophone.

3  #4  2  3 6(#3  #3)  #5

The of the

Picture 1.  Two words.  You want the first word after you have removed the second and fourth letters.
Picture 2. First Name.  replace "D" with "V".
Picture 3. Abbreviation of their profession.

Then I told a story about Blue and I.

Blue would bet on two flies crawling up a wall and he can make a competition out of the most ordinary activities.  We had this conversation the other day:

Blue: Give me a pun and I'll bet you a fiver I can come straight back with a better one.

Jack: A chicken crossing the road is poultry in motion.
Blue: I thought I saw an eye doctor on an Alaskan island, but it turned out to be an optical Aleutian.

Jack: She was only a whisky maker, but he loved her still.
Blue: A rubber band pistol was confiscated from algebra class because it was a weapon of math disruption.

Jack: The butcher backed into the meat grinder and got a little behind in his work.
Blue: No matter how much you push the envelope, it'll still be stationery.

Jack: A dog gave birth to puppies near the road and was cited for littering.
Blue: A grenade thrown into a kitchen in France would result in Linoleum Blownapart.

Jack: Two silk worms had a race. They ended up in a tie.
Blue: A backward poet writes inverse.

Jack:
When cannibals ate a missionary, they got a taste of religion.
Blue: Don't join dangerous cults: Practice safe sects.

Jack: O.K., you win

Hi Jack

I really enjoyed your post - it made a lot of sense so thanks for that :-*

I agree about the cricket snippet but I couldn't possibly say if the ball was edged as I don't have a snickometer  >:D

Back shortly with a rebus...

I'm Back Jack

A cracking post  :)  A great rebus.  Thank you Mike you are missed.  Blue properly tickled me

My rebus is a character from a 1970's TV series and an episode from 1973.

A

You need homophones of the first two picture and then the first two letters of picture three.  Either gent in picture five.  Not who he is but rather what.  Please pretend it's all on one line.

A bit more deja vu  ;D

Lost on a rainy night, a nun stumbles across a monastery and requests shelter there. Fortunately, she's just in time for dinner and was treated to the best fish and chips she's ever had. After dinner, she goes into the kitchen to thank the chefs. She is met by two brothers, "Hello, I'm Brother Michael, and this is Brother Charles." "I'm very pleased to meet you. I just wanted to thank you for a wonderful dinner. The fish and chips were the best I've ever tasted. Out of curiosity, who cooked what?" Brother Charles replied, "Well, I'm the fish friar." She turns the other brother and says, "Then you must be...?" "Yes, I'm the chip monk."

If life gives you lemons, add a large gin & some tonic...

Valerie, one of our friends that we haven’t heard from for a while posted on another thread yesterday.  I sent her a message and her reply included “ I still read all your posts on the forum.  My love to you all.  Cheers, Val xxxxx

Hi Jack

How lovely to hear that Val still tunes in to our thread  :)  Sending love back to you Val xx

I'm feeling a bit lazy today!  Your previous post gave me the idea to use another episode from my (& Linda's!) favourite programme.

#3 7 (#5 + #2) 5 #3 #4

You need just three letters from the middle of both pictures one & three.  Please change the first letter of picture two - you're not interested in Arkwright or Granville.  You need the man with the fetching pink shirt in picture five.  Please reverse the first two letters.  Position is vital!

Sorry about my earlier joke about oil.  It was a bit crude.
I'll make sure they're more refined in future.

In the absence of anybody else to do it for me I'd better make my own tea

Hi Pen,

Great rebus.  Your episode featured the last appearance of Dr George Bullard.

I am going to take a leaf out of your book and present an episode of your TV series and also highlight one of your favourite techniques.

#3  2  #2   #4  #4

One Line. Position Vital.

Picture 1. Substitute  “Y” for “R” in the abbreviation of  title of the horse.
Picture 2. Substitute  “B” for “P”
Picture 3. Substitute  “N” for “P”
Picture 4. Substitute  “Y” for “C”
