I found the picture of Bletchley Station courtesy of Ms Google :)  I was trying to guess how long ago it was taken.

Hi Pen,

The picture was taken during the building of the flyover and therefore sometime between 1958 and 1960.  I guess you wouldn't remember too much about that time. :D

In my befuddled state overnight I forgot to ask what information "My rebus is 8 across" in your introduction to the rebus was supposed to convey.

jack, did you fail to notice that Pen was doing a crossword???

Let me guess, Pen, that either the clue to 8 across was "an idiom" or the answer is "idiom"...

1987 film which features some fairly impressive slapstick comedy not to mention some other stuff that would simply give the game away...

#3 8(#4 #4) 5(#1 #4)
Image 1 – second half only; image 2 – lose the last letter; image 3 – first half only; 1 homophone; all on one line

Hi Pen,

I was amusing myself this morning looking back over some of my posts from 5-10 years ago and I came across two I thought could be edited to be worth repeating.

Quote
A visiting American to Brisbane suddenly developed the world's worst toothache and asked Blue to recommend a dentist.

Blue said his dentist had just retired and he too was looking for a new dentist.  He knew his mate nicknamed Waltzin’ (his real name was Matt Hilder) had six teeth filled by one of the local dentists so he suggested they give Matt a call and see if he would recommend the dentist.

The American explained his predicament to Matt who replied "Yesterday I was playing golf and some idiot on the tenth shanked a rabbit-high ball that came 60 metres at the speed of sound and hit me right in the nuts".

The American was in considerable pain and impatiently said "I'm sorry but what has THAT got to do with the competency of this dentist"

To which Matt replied "It was the first time in three years I forgot how much my teeth hurt".

I asked Blue if any of his other mates had nicknames and he gave me this list

    • All Bran – He loves chairing meetings and passing motions;
    • Barra – He’s always coming up with fishy yarns;
    • Beer Bottle – He’s empty from the neck up;
    • Blotto - Completely pissed half the time and half pissed all the time
    • Cheeses- We think he’s religious because this is his favourite expletive;
    • Kanga – He’s always on the hop;
    • Ocker – He’s not very cultured and likes beer, sport and women in that order;
    • Opium – He’s a slow acting dope;
    • Pearl -  He is virtually neckless – built like a brick outhouse;
    • Pothole – He’s always in the road;
    • Septic {tank} – He’s a Yank;
    • Snake -  the girls say it because he is a charmer, but the blokes reckon it’s an anatomical reference;
    • Snuggler – He’s full of what nappies collect;
    • Whisper – Almost impossible to get him to shout.
    • Bed -  surname Owen, he lives out in the desert.

    My rebus is the first two lines of a famous mid 19th Century poem.
    {Line 1} #5 1  9(#6 #3) 12(#8-#4)
    {Line 2}  3  #7  #6  #6

      a The

    Sorry John I think I inadvertently caused a bit of confusion.

    The 8a clue in my crossword was Easy pickings from food only emperor ordered (5, 3, 3, 4,)

    I solved it and then had the bright idea that it would make a good rebus but didn't explain it properly  :-R

    I got your rebus at the second time of asking  ;D

    Hi Jack

    I most definitely wouldn't remember  :laugh:  Far too young and we were still living in Stokenchurch then.  I think we moved to the Crooked Billet in 1964.  Bletchley has changed massively since then - sadly not for the better  :(

    I'm going to scoff a ham and tomato sarnie and will return with a proper post in a bit  :-H

    I'm Back Jack

    Gorgeous pictures of Ruby and Bonnie  :-*

    I can't believe we've been posting for that many years :o  Crikey where does the time go?  They were definitely worth repeating :)

    I'll see your first two lines of a famous mid 19th Century poem and offer you the first line of another one from slightly earlier.

    #3 #3 #5 2 #3 #7 #4

    First three letters of picture one and please lose four letters from picture four - keeping three consecutive.  Please change the first letter of picture five and use the first of the two words for the last picture. One homophone. Position is critical  :laugh:

    Going to get out for a walk before the sun disappears.

    Leave you with a very naff joke  ;D

    Hi Jack

    We've had torrential rain all morning.  Sun came out after lunch so I thought I'd head out for a walk.  It was lovely until I turned round to head for home - straight into the teeth of a howling gale!  Took me twice as long to get back :laugh:

    Nobody seems to have spotted that my rebus yesterday was a repeat of one I did about 2 months ago!  A dear friend e-mailed me some very funny parodies. I had this bright idea that I'd repeat the rebus but do it a bit differently and then share the parodies today :)

    The boy stood on the burning deck
    Playing a game of cricket.
    The ball ran up his trouser leg
    And hit his middle wicket.

    The boy stood on the burning deck.
    Alas, he is no more
    For what he thought was H2O
    Was H2S04.

    The boy stood on the burning deck
    His pockets full of crackers
    One slipped down his trouser-leg
    And burnt off both his… kneecaps!

    A simple rebus today.  It's a 1980's film.

    3 10 (#3 + #3 + #4) #3

    THE
    You need to think how our American friends would refer to picture one and then use the first three letters.  Picture two you want the first three letters of his name and then please change the first letter.  Please pretend it's all on one line.

    That's all from me.  I'm going to put the kettle on and contemplate work tomorrow!

    Hi Pen,

    There could be several reasons why nobody commented:
    • Unless they solved the rebus both times, they would not realise the solution had been repeated.  You used different set-ups – both clever.
    • They may have thought you didn’t remember and didn’t want to cause offence reminding you.
    • The fact that the second setup was so different meant that the reward for solving the rebus was just as enjoyable even though it gave the same result as a previous solution.
    Therefore, I will give in to the temptation to imitate the master (or should that be mistress) and use one of your solutions of just over 18 months ago taking care to construct the clues differently.  It is a film, which was also released in the 1980s, with the same leading actor you used in your last rebus.

    #3  #4  #6   10(#5  #5)  2  5(#3  #2)

    Conceptually one line but the position of the pictures is determined by the text.  The position preposition is not pictured.

    Picture 1.  What is she wearing? Remove the 2-letter abbreviation of the City of Angels.
    Picture 3.  Definitely not the Beauty.  Remove the middle letter.
    Picture 4.   Four words.  You only need the first.
    Picture 5.  Remove the dog from this member of the mint family and then make a homophone.
    Picture 6.  Three words.  You only need the first.
    Picture 7.  Remove the first two letters.

    Hi Jack

    I'm back at work and keep thinking it's Monday :laugh:  Oh well at least it's a lovely short week this week :)

    It's quite busy so I'm going to offer up an entry into the easiest ever rebus competition  >:D  It's a 19th century novel.

    A film Pen is unlikely to watch…

    #3 5(#2 #1 #2) 8(#5 #3) 8(#4 #4)
    Image 1 – scramble the last three letters; word 2 starts with the leftover letters from image 1; image 2 – what you’re trying to find; image 3 – just one of them (homophone); image 5 – another film Pen is unlikely to watch; image 6 – not who they are, what they’re doing; image 7 – what if it were 2 cricket pitches by 5 cricket pitches? All on one line...
