Hi again, Pen
You might have noticed that although Bonnie features often in my posts, I haven’t mentioned Dusty for quite some time.
Dusty was always reactive to strange dogs and young children but with careful management and avoiding confronting situations, he was a happy dog. With us, he was a loving and affectionate dog. However, when his family moved to Cleveland he seemed to become more reactive and one occasion resorted to self-harm overnight. A dog psychologist recommended to his family that he be put down immediately which was totally out of the question as far as they, and we, were concerned.
As a short-term solution, he was boarded out at the country property where he was born, and he was a totally different dog there. He got on well with all the other dogs and was well behaved and happy. After much soul searching, it was decided he should be rehomed permanently. He has been placed with a retired couple, who are connected to the Taaffeite group, on a small country property which has a variety of animals and regular visits from other Taaffeite dogs. He is also continuing his training in competition Frisby, which he enjoys. All reports are that he has bonded well and is enjoying life. So while there is a residual sadness that things didn’t work out, I think it is the best result for all concerned.
The boys have been very keen to have another dog and so the Cleveland mob are getting a 9-week-old puppy next week. Introductions with Bonnie will need some careful handling.
You may have noticed that while you are freezing, we are getting bombarded with heat wave warnings. These are good days to stay in the air-conditioning and catch up with reading and TV watching. I am getting soft in my old age.
What did the left eye say to the right eye? Between us something smells.
I’ll leave you with a bit of Déjà vu.
