Hi Pen,

Blue asked me, “what starts with “w” and ends with “t”?”   I told him, “Yes, it  does.

He told me you know you’re getting old when you try to catch your second wind, but break it instead!

Blue claims that you are either born with the ability to tell jokes or you are not - it is all in the delivery!

Back in the day, Sheila applied to become a nurse.  On the entrance exam she was sure she got one question right.  The question was “Rearrange the Letters PNEIS to form a human body part that is most useful when erect.  Those that answered  SPINE are nurses today while Sheila is married to Blue

Hi Jack

We've just been out for a walk & it's not a bad day in spite of the dire forecast from the Met Office!

I've sussed bits of your rebuses but can't seem to put it all together!

My rebus is a film from the 1940's.

I thought I'd used this before but I searched & couldn't spot it.  Fingers crossed!

Going to have another wrestle with your rebus ;D

Hi Pen,

You had used it before.  It is difficult to check for rebuses.  I had to search my past spoiler alerts on Dropbox to find it.  Anyway it is a good one and worth repeating.  It will save me some.work when I do my spoiler alerts later.

My rebus is a classic film from 1949.  Hoping I'm not repeating myself!

Hi Pen,
Blue takes a lot of sickies off work. I wondered why he only seemed to be sick on weekdays.  His explanation is that it must be his weekend immune system.

Blue had a long-term ambition of acting in the local repertory.  They finally gave him a role in a play carrying a drill.  It was a bit part.  I told him if he doesn’t screw it up, his next role might be a drill sergeant.

Blue reckons a lot of proverbs and idioms are past their use-by date and need to be updated.  Here are some of his suggestions
  • A stitch in time saves a wardrobe malfunction.
  • Don't judge a book by its download speed.
  • Fortune favours the entitled.
  • Where there's a will, there's a probate.
  • Spare the rod and ruin the fishing trip.
  • Still waters grow algae.
  • When the going gets tough, put it in 4-wheel drive.
  • To err is human. To keep doing it is stupid.
  • Arguing with a stupid person proves there are two of you.
  • He who laughs last didn't get the joke.
  • A journey of a 1000 miles may start with a single step, but you'll get there faster if you fly.
  • Money can't buy happiness, but neither does poverty.

I must go and do a few chores.  If I don't wear myself out I'll try to think of a rebus.

If anyone has a good idea for a rebus but don't know how to construct it, send me a private message and I will put it together - with due acknowledgement, of course.
Regards, Jack

Hi Pen,

I had just lined up my chores when we got an invitation to go over to Coorparoo for lunch and to give the puppies a bit of exercise.  I got out of my chores but I am still a bit knackered.

Carol (2dognight) gave me a suggestion for a rebus and I will present it in this post. It is the title of a 1940s novel by a well-known  English author who used the first line of a 17th Century poem.  It was also made into a TV mini-series.

Picture 5.  Ditch the last syllable of his name.

Thanks, Carol.

Hi Jack

I hope you're not too knacked with all the chores.

I very much liked Blue's updated proverbs

It's a miserable, dreary, drizzly day here :(  Zoe asked what I was expecting as it is October & well into Autumn!  Hoping it cheers up after lunch but I'll go for a walk anyway.

I had a poor showing with my rebus yesterday.  Not only was it a repeat but I couldn't count the number of letters in the last word :-[
I'm going to attempt the film that Zoe & I enjoyed last night. Released in 2017. Hopefully it shouldn't cause too much of a headache!

Please lose the first & last letters of the second picture & the first letter of the third picture.  The last picture is a homophone.

I've got an egg sarnie with my name on it :-H

ps just spotted your post as I was going to disappear.  Hope you enjoyed your lunch & sorry you're a bit knacked.  I'll give your rebus some attention when I've been fed & watered :)
If life gives you lemons, add a large gin & some tonic...

Hi Pen,

We have been threatened with under the stairs weather for the next couple of days, which should be interesting.  I’ll be able to postpone those chores for a few days more.

I hope I did justice to Carol’s rebus suggestion.

Blue dressed up as a pirate for the Halloween Party down at the local Town Hall.  Sheila asked “Where are your buccaneers?” Blue responsed: “Under me  buccan hat!”

Blue went to consult a psychic and knocked at her front door.  She called out, “who is it?”.  So he left.

Blue nearly had a fit when he drove into the cemetry.   The GPS announced, “You have reached your final destination”.

My rebus is a royal residence.

8( #4   #4)   6(#3  #3)

Picture 1.  Not what it is but what it looks like.
Picture 2. How about 4 tennis courts then?
Picture 3. If the cap fits, wear it
Picture 4. Don’t overthink it.

The storm has started.

Regards, Jack

Hi Jack

Can't believe it's Monday again already.  Think I'm in for another busy morning on fracture clinic so I'll probably be doing this post in fits & starts!

I'm very much in favour of any excuse to avoid doing chores >:D

You did a cracking job with Carol's rebus.  My simple puzzle is a book published in the 1940's by a well known British author.

For a bonus point can you please name the author who the book was dedicated to.

The public have been told to plan ahead for Christmas this year due to supply issues...
this is forcing the majority of men to bring their shopping forward to 23rd December!

A man rushed into the doctor's room & shouted "Doctor, Doctor I'm shrinking!"
The doctor looked at him & calmly said "You'll just have to be a little patient!"

It's very noisy & busy.  Roll on lunchtime...

Hi Pen,

Blue tried looking for gold, but it didn't pan out.

Blue used to be a hotel clerk, but then he had reservations.

Blue considered going into the ministry, but he didn't have an altar ego.

Hi Jack

I have an answer for your rebus but have no idea if I'm right!  I'll sit patiently & wait for the spoiler

I found a funny expression by accident this morning.  It hails from your neck of the woods & it really tickled me.  If, on the off chance, Les is still tuning in he'll appreciate it :)

Paddy took 2 stuffed dogs to the Antiques Roadshow.
"Ooh," said the presenter. "This is a very rare set produced by the celebrated Johns Brothers taxidermists who operated in London at the turn of the last century. Do you have any idea what they would fetch if they were in good condition?"
"Sticks" said Paddy.
