I obviously can't help you with your query about 'Tales of the Unexpected' being shown on Aussie TV.
Have you seen any of the 'Inside No 9' series? Similar in layout to the earlier series - each episode is complete, thirty minutes in length and with a 'twist in the tail'. There are different actors each time, but Reece Sheersmith and Steve Pemberton, who write the scripts, appear in every episode.
The stories are often much darker than Roald Dahl's, and in some cases border on the horrific.
The series may not be to everyone's taste, but it has won many awards. Each series has six episodes and the sixth series has just finished. I for one am looking forward to the next batch
