A 1934 American crime novel, considered very 'sexy' at the time.
The 1946 film version is now considered a classic; the 1981 version became quite notorious

I think I have it Mike but I'm missing the second picture.

G'day Jack

It's Monday morning & here I am girding my loins for a very busy fracture clinic this morning.

Mike and Andrew share a common characteristic.  They have an enormous store of obscure knowledge
& how I envy them.  You can add Zoe to the list - she's the same :)

I have an answer to your rebus but am not sure it's right :-\

My rebus is a tale which could be considered "nonsense" ;)

Please change the second letter of the first picture.  Pick any of them in picture 2.  Remove the final letter of picture3.

This happened 25 years ago today.  As you probably know I'm not a footie fan but things like this you don't forget ;D

It's got busy & very noisy so I'm going to bugger offski

I thought that it was actually better than the " correct " answer.

Hi Pen,
I will be away from home for most of the day and so I am getting in early with an easy-peasy rebus – a quote attributed to one of the Founding Fathers of the United States.  He was falsely attributed on a respected quotation website and it spread from there. The quote comes from a Chinese Confucian philosopher that lived from 312-230 BC.

I will even give you the three-word answer to one of the pictures.

    me and I

#4  2  3  1  #6, #5  2  3 1  #3   #8, 7(#2  #5)  2  3  1 #5

Picture 9.(gun)  5 consecutive letters from the middle.
Regards, Jack

You are looking for a translation of the original title of a foreign-language novel (published 2005) and film (released 2009)

It is very different from the title by which both book and film are  known in the English-speaking world.

four words - 3/3/4/5

Hi Jack

You off on a jolly today?  >:D

I was a bit stumped for a rebus today so I've gone to the opposite end of the scale to you & Mike & am giving you a children's book!  It's a bit simple but my little grey cell is on a go slow!

#3 #4 #6 11 (#3 + #2 + #6)

You need the second half of the word describing what picture 2 is!  Sorry that sounds clumsy :( First word of last picture.

"I once hired a limo but when it arrived, the guy driving it walked off! I said “Excuse me? Are you not going to drive me?” The guy told me that the price didn’t include a driver so I spent £400 on a limo and have nothing to chauffeur it!"

Leave you with a daft Dad joke ;D

A 1958 British attempt to make a comedy western!
It had some big names in the cast, but it wasn't too successful outside UK and I don't think they made any more like it.

five words, including a definite article which is not pictured - 3/7/2/9/3

picture 2 - the second and fourth letters only
picture 3 - the word you need should end in a 'd'

bonus point for each of the two main stars
bonus bonus point for naming the very popular lady singer doing the voice-overs

You off on a jolly today?  >:D

Hi Pen,

No, Just some routine shopping over at Carindale including lunch from Sushi Sushi.  I did upgrade my phone to an iPhone 12.  I’ve spent most of today tuning it.

I am really happy that the hours of daylight have started increasing again.  How do you celebrate (or not) your summer solstice?

I had Guinness sausages and Cornish pasties for lunch.  Must watch my waistline.  I envy you, Pen. You can eat as much chocolate as you like and your earrings still fit.

I really enjoyed Mike’s western and so I am going to use one from roughly the same time period.

3  #3  #3  #4  #7  7(#3  #5)

The definite article is not pictured.

The answers from pictures 2, 4, 5, and 6 are contiguous parts of the whole.  There is an overlap of one letter in pictures 5 and 6.  Pictures are conceptually on the one line.

Hi Jack

I've never tried sushi,  Don't know why - just can't fancy raw fish.  Although I do enjoy smoked salmon so perhaps I should be braver & try it one of these days.  Guinness sausages & cornish pasty are some of my most favourite foods as I'm sure you know.  My waistline has expanded somewhat & my earrings are about the only things that fit comfortably now >:D  I love my grub & am a big pig

I don't celebrate Summer solstice.  Once upon a time hordes of folks used to gather at Stonehenge but I think that was stopped a few years ago.  You actually have to pay to go there now!  Zoe pointed out the other day that we start going back the other way now that we've had the longest day!

I've sussed your rebus but am stumped by Mike's at the moment.  I'm off to lunch shortly then fracture clinic this afternoon so I'll return a bit later.

Jack - I think the last word should have 7 letters, not 8,
Mike
