Some of June's presents for her birthday last week were in the form of IOUs which required her to participate in spending.

Don't you have insecticides in Bletchley?

I have often thought we ought to have a competition for the most creative deliberately wrong answers.  I think your contribution qualifies.

Hi Jack

It's getting hotter & hotter here & the mask isn't helping.  We do have insecticides but I've never actually had a mozzie in my bedroom before :o

I hope June found some lovely gifts  :)  I always thought it would be fun to have a nice pot of money & a personal shopper in a shop like John Lewis.  I could just sit there while they brought stuff for me to try on   Maybe I need to aim a bit higher & say Harrods >:D

I have to say I'd probably beat you hands down at a wrong answer competition - half the time not even deliberate

I've solved most of your rebus after getting a bit distracted!
My rebus is a poem written by the author of another of my recent rebuses.

SPOILER ALERT - My rebus

SPOILER ALERT - Pen's rebus

Hi Pen,

I only had time to do one spoiler alert before going for the morning dog walk and I thought Mike's rebus had the best back story.

It was cold at dog training last night

It wasn't cold enough for me to wear long trousers.  {poor photo from Facebook}

My Rebus is an achievement in 1813 which was significant in the development of Australia.

Jack, i'm shivering, just at the thought of you out & about last night in a pair of shorts particularly with that wind chill factor.
Exactly just how cold does it have to get before you pull out the sweat pants?

Looking at your forecast Les I don't think your daytime temperatures are much different to ours at the moment!  Your nighttime temperatures are quite a lot cooler though.  We're set for a heatwave this weekend.  28oc on Sunday :o

Hi Jack

You're right :)  I very much enjoyed Mike's rebus & I've just read the story behind your rebus today & that was also very interesting.

I've had a manic morning & I'm off to lunch shortly (thank heavens :-H)  I'm heading off to fracture clinic this afternoon so hopefully it'll be a quieter & I can do a more substantial post!

ps  I've come to the conclusion that Les is a bit of a wimp >:D

When I was younger, Les, I had a high tolerance to heat and cold but I have always been a bit iffy about humidity.  Post 60 I started to lose that tolerance quite quickly.   Strangely though, I feel cold in the upper body and not in the legs and I think I share this with a lot of Queenslanders. It is quite common to see men in shorts and women in short skirts but wearing a couple of jumpers or a heavy coat.

I'm Back Jack

I've enjoyed a corned beef sarnie & some grapes & ready to face the afternoon.  Fingers crossed it's a lot calmer than this morning!

A quick & easy rebus from me.  It's something that took place in 1381 & the leader.

This is a 1999 film by Mike Leigh about, arguably, the greatest ever double act in British showbiz.

two words, hyphenated - 5-5

picture 3 - you only need the first syllable

Hi Pen,

My rebus is a rhyme associated with the incident which was the subject of your rebus.  I found it very hard to picture ,so cut me a bit of slack, please.
#4  #4  #6  3  #3  #4,
#3  #3  #4  3  #9 ?
    and
    the ?
Picture 1. remove the second letter
Picture 2.
Picture 3. Make singular and top and tail it with a "d"
Picture 4.
Picture 5. Archaic past tense
Picture 6. The group
Picture 7. Ditch the last letter
Picture 8. WYSIWYG - it helps if you have studied logic
Picture 9. Caricature

Some humour my daughter sent me.

UK people can substitute Boris for Scott.

To misquote Crocodile Dundee, “Call 28o C a heatwave, this is a heatwave - 123.3 °F

The highest maximum temperature was recorded as 50.7 °C (123.3 °F) at Oodnadatta on 2 January 1960, which is the highest official temperature recorded in Australia.  We will be 6o C cooler than you on Sunday.

Jack, I know what picture 3 should be (small pixie-like creatures) but I can't see it. All the other pictures are there.

Hi Rose,
I did the rebus on windows 10 and Firefox, no problems.
No problems with iPad and Safari. What are you using?

You are right it was six elves. Here is a substitute.

Does this come out?

Is anyone else having a problem?  If so, what operating system and browser?

Yes, I can now see lots of elves, but not the original lot.

I'm using Chrome on a MacBook.

Hi Jack

That was a brilliant rebus - a proper crackerjack :)  Zoe & I sorted it out but the only thing we didn't get was picture 8.  We guessed what it represented but didn't really know why!

Loved your daughter's humour - please tell her to send more

I'm a little short of time this afternoon so my rebus is a simple proverb.
#1 7 (#5 + #2) #3 #5 #5

A
Please pretend it's all on one line. Picture 2 is cryptic crossword's favourite newspaper man!  Picture 4 please change the first letter. It's how we'd refer to the object in question & not how it's known across the pond!

I'll swap your temperature with ours on Sunday!  It's going to be boily here!!

It's burgers & dirty fries for tea so I'd better get into the kitchen a bit lively :-H
