I was halfway through a rebus but rather than rush it I will finish it off later  today.

Well solved.
Apparently another film on the subject, simply called 'Operation Mincemeat' is due to be released later this year.
As it stars Colin Firth and Kelly Macdonald, it is already high on my 'must see' list.

I don't like the sound of all these huge thunderstorms you're getting!  I'm not sure under the stairs would be adequate for me - I'd probably need a purpose built sound proofed bunker   How does Bonnie get on with the bad storms?  or is she getting used to them?  I wonder if you did miss dog training?

Hi Pen,

The storms at our place were much milder than in other parts of Brisbane.  I have mentioned before that I think we are in a rain shadow or perhaps we have just been lucky.  Bonnie doesn't seem to pay much attention to the thunder and lightning.  The dog training oval was swamped, however, so better luck next Wednesday.

Now to the rebus.  When I was a teenager, there was one particular Country and Western song that was pointed out to me with some regularity. I think they were trying to give me a message but I could never see the relevance.

You almost got it right, Pen.  We had a beef casserole for tea so it was Shiraz.

Your gent was a pommie until 11. An Aussie until 22.  Then he divided his time between the two.  I understand he is still going strong, probably in Sydney.

What a wonderfully entertaining & uplifting clip.
Just makes you want to get up & dance.
A bit hard to tell with the clarity of some of the images but i was also guessing Al Jolson.
My initial score was 3.5 but after the third viewing i managed to get that score up to 7.5 ( i think )

My busy day went well thanks.  It was mostly chores & shopping but I did see an old friend which was brilliant

I misread your comment about the patio as -14^oc & thought bloody hell that's cold   Idiot!!

I'm sure you already know, but the reference is to Leslie Thomas's most famous novel 'The Virgin Soldiers', about a group of 'National Service' 'squaddies' (I wonder if Chi knows that word!) who finish up in Malaya at the time when the Malays were fighting for independence.
