Well solved.
Apparently another film on the subject, simply called 'Operation Mincemeat' is due to be released later this year.
As it stars Colin Firth and Kelly Macdonald, it is already high on my 'must see' list.

I don't like the sound of all these huge thunderstorms you're getting!  I'm not sure under the stairs would be adequate for me - I'd probably need a purpose built sound proofed bunker   How does Bonnie get on with the bad storms?  or is she getting used to them?  I wonder if you did miss dog training?

Hi Pen,

The storms at our place were much milder than in other parts of Brisbane.  I have mentioned before that I think we are in a rain shadow or perhaps we have just been lucky.  Bonnie doesn't seem to pay much attention to the thunder and lightning.  The dog training oval was swamped, however, so better luck next Wednesday.

Now to the rebus.  When I was a teenager, there was one particular Country and Western song that was pointed out to me with some regularity. I think they were trying to give me a message but I could never see the relevance.

Hi Jack

I'm pleased that Bonnie isn't bothered by the thunder & lightning.  Perhaps she could teach me a trick or 2
Did you enjoy a couple of glasses of sauv blanc in lieu of dog training? >:D

I loved your rebus - it really tickled me & your reason for using it :)

I don't have much time today but I'll leave you with a quick rebus.  It's a film from 1965 starring a gent who I'm not sure if he's from your neck of the wood or mine

The second picture is in the past tense.  You're not interested in who the gent is in picture four.

Must dash

You almost got it right, Pen.  We had a beef casserole for tea so it was Shiraz.

Your gent was a pommie until 11. An Aussie until 22.  Then he divided his time between the two.  I understand he is still going strong, probably in Sydney.

How did your busy day go?

SPOILER ALERT - My rebus

SPOILER ALERT - Pen's Rebus

It's freezing here on the patio- 14oC.  I must go and finish my coffee inside.

Hi Pen,

I was on a circulation list to whom the following clip was e-mailed with the challenge “Ok oldies see how many faces you can recognise”

The Clip
I think I got 6 including Jerry of Tom and Jerry and trusting it was Al Jolson as the blackface.  Can any forumite do better?

These are some funny pictures from the same source

What a wonderfully entertaining & uplifting clip.
Just makes you want to get up & dance.
A bit hard to tell with the clarity of some of the images but i was also guessing Al Jolson.
My initial score was 3.5 but after the third viewing i managed to get that score up to 7.5 ( i think )

A 1976 comic novel which was made into a TV movie (1981) with Bernard Cribbins, and later a TV series.
The author of the novel made his name writing about young, inexperienced military men.

five words including a definite article which is not pictured; 9/6/3/4/9

1. The first word is an adjective
2. You need the surname of the lady swinging the club

Oh Mike a great rebus.  I looked at it earlier & was stumped.  Just been out for a walk with no1 daughter & I suddenly said "I know who the golfer is & I've solved Mike's rebus"   Is that what they call an epiphany? >:D
It was another very enjoyable TV series that I'd forgotten about :)

Hi Jack

My busy day went well thanks.  It was mostly chores & shopping but I did see an old friend which was brilliant :)

I misread your comment about the patio as -14oc & thought bloody hell that's cold >:D  Idiot!!

Loved the clip - think I got 6 but a definite 5!  Pictures were very funny

My rebus is a 1990's TV series.

The first word is what you might call one member of this group >:D

Leave you with a small selection.  Think the first one is a repeat but it still tickled me ;D

I'm sure you already know, but the reference is to Leslie Thomas's most famous novel 'The Virgin Soldiers', about a group of 'National Service' 'squaddies' (I wonder if Chi knows that word!) who finish up in Malaya at the time when the Malays were fighting for independence.
Great novel, great film.
