The last two days I have been working like a beaver, mowing lawns and cleaning up the pool area.  After the recent rains, there has been a surplus of Palm debris.  If they continue to make this much work they may not survive another summer.

Last night we got a phone call from the daughter of one of our Brighton Lakes friends to say her 90-year-old father was visiting her in North Brisbane and would like to catch up with us.  So we are having lunch with him tomorrow.  We were assured that the restaurant is dog-friendly but we are not confident that Bonnie is restaurant-friendly, so she will spend the day at Coorparoo.

Tonight is Dog Training night to replace the last one which was 4 weeks ago.  Each Wednesday night since then has been rained out.

Morning Jack

Just gearing myself up for a busy morning on fracture clinic.

Sounds like your palms are for the chop!  Apart from looking good do they serve any useful purpose?  Shade perhaps?

I've solved three-quarters of Mike's rebus & will pay a return visit to it later.

My rebus is a 17th century work of art that hangs in the National Gallery.

Just for a change.........

The rebuses featured in this thread always depict the best. The best films, the best books, the best works of art etc.

So, just for a change.....

This is a 1987 (comedy????) film, listed in a Wikipedia article  as one of 'the worst ever made'.

five words, including a definite article which is not depicted, 3/7/4/4/5

A word of advice - Should you ever feel tempted to download this piece of cr-p to see just how bad it is, DON'T!!!

I'll follow that advice Mike & will not to be tempted to look for your movie, the title alone, is enough to put me off.
I'll also follow your theme & make this late 1970's comedy the subject of my rebus.
It received mixed reviews but was very popular at the box office particularly with teenagers & younger adults.
I remember watching it at the drive in & at the time i thought that it was hilarious as did all my peers.
I came across a re run of the film a couple of weeks ago & struggled to see it out, barely cracking a smile.

Anyway the title of the movie has 5 words - 5, 5, 3. 3, 5
You will have to delete one letter from the name of the brothers in the first image.
The second image is 2 words.

Hi Mike & Les

You've both been very busy! :)

I've sussed Mike's rebus after a couple of false starts.  Like Les I wont be tempted to try & watch it.  I solved your second rebus fairly easily Les - helped that I spotted the brothers in the first picture.  I can remember watching this at about the same time as you & howling with laughter.  After your recent experience I wont be tempted to watch it again.  I'm totally stumped by your first puzzle.  I'll return to it a bit later on & wait for divine inspiration

I've followed on the theme with my rebus.  It's a naff film from the 1950's.  The title made me chuckle.

Think of the American name for the nine-letter word and you should get it.
It's actually on this year's A-level English Lit syllabus, which my Grandson is due to take this summer, if our wretchedly incompetent minister of education can finally make up his mind what is happening.

Thanks Mike.  I don't know how or why but I've sussed it now :)  Sometimes it helps leaving it alone for a little while!

Well done Jack, all spoilers are of course, perfectly correct.
Expect that you had an enjoyable lunch yesterday, catching up with your old mate.
Did you talk him into registering for Chi ?

Hi Pen,

We had a good day yesterday. We had lunch at the Belvedere Hotel at Woody Point on their huge deck overlooking the bay.  The food was good, the service was great, and the laughs and reminiscences were plenty.  What more could you want?  A bottle of wine would have been nice but I was driving, so I made do with two glasses of low alcohol beer.  I made up for it after we got home.  Bonnie also must have had a satisfactory day at Coorparoo.  When we got her home all she wanted to do was sleep.

I’ll ease back into a rebus with a very simple one – a compendium of actions.

Hi Les,

As you would have seen in my previous post we had a great time.

I forgot to raise chi with my Mate.  But then I used to see him most Thursdays for twenty years on the golf course and rarely raised it, so it would have been more surprising if I had.

Regards, Jack

G'day Jack, over the years i've had quite a few meals at the " Belle " & have never been disappointed.
I was half joking about signing your mate up for Chi although it can be a convenient way to keep in contact with someone, particularly with the personal message available.
Anyway glad to hear that you had a good day on the better side of Brisbane.

Hi Les,

I keep in contact with some of the Brighton Lakes crowd by e-mail.  Others range from quite competent with technology to some who don't know how to sign on. I keep a financial interest in the group by retaining my membership in their lotto syndicate. Three of the group are over 90 and so I am one of the youngsters.

I'll leave the better side comment go to the keeper.
Regards, Jack
