What exciting adventures have you got lined up for the week, Pen?

I have yet to be convinced it is a good idea to mix cartoons and rebuses. >:D

I have an answer to your rebus which is consistent with your pictures but not with the first word in your word count.

Hi Again Jack

Not very much excitement, unfortunately, but I'm going to relax & enjoy not getting up at stupid O' clock :)  I'm meeting a couple of friends for socially distanced walks & Zoe's off as well so no doubt we'll be wrestling the Smellygraph crossword into submission a couple of times!

I will resist the temptation to include any additional clues in my cartoons :)

I'm sure you've solved my rebus.  The first word is a homophone of the 2 pictures combined. Sorry I didn't mention it because I thought that would make it a bit too easy :-[

40 minutes & counting :-C

If life gives you lemons, add a large gin & some tonic...

I assumed it was a homophone of the two pictures but the word I came up with has six letters, so I can't have solved it.  So to quote someone I know I will keep my powder dry and leave it for others to solve.

Sorry Jack I can't count :-[ I had a manically busy morning at work & did it in a rush. Feel a right numpty! First word is 6 & I'm 110% sure you have it. Going to climb in a hole & then have my shepherds pie :-H
A 1000 apologies  :' :-*

How very fortunate Michael.  I'm not sure Jack would have given up the whisky without a fight >:D

The lesson that arises is:
If you buy two of any bottle that appeals, then you can drink one, and enjoy it, the second one gives you options.

I have had the good fortune to taste some wonderful items.
Those gems yielded about 10,000 pounds.
I don't think I would derive that value from any bottle.
A trip on the other hand !

It is all just choices and options, there's not an absolutely correct answer.

Michael

A further lesson that applies:

I have had the good fortune to purchase some absolute gems at specialist auctions.
How can such a gem get to auction ?

The only scenario is that makes sense to me is.

1
Someone who 'knows' his stuff bought an excellent item.

2
He sits it proudly on his bookcase, and muses 'one special day I will drink that'.

3
That special day never arises.
His widow or heirs have no idea of what they have, so flog it off, often via an auction house.

4
Being a very narrow market, nobody notices except one sharp eyed, lucky person.

So the lesson is:
Drink it and enjoy it.
If you are not prepared to open a bottle of that value, consider selling it.

A friend once said;
"My greatest fear is that my widow will sell my whisky collection for the price I told her I paid for it".

Hi Michael,

I'm afraid Pen overestimates my feelings about single malts.  The same goes for red wines.  My palate is good enough to tell good from poor and to an extent very good from good but no way good enough to tell very good from excellent.  So to buy, or not to sell, a bottle of single malt for more than $200 or a red for more than $100 would  just be a waste of money.  So I would have sold both bottles. >:D

Sorry Jack I can't count.

Never mind, Pen, you have inadvertently given me my rebus for the day. >:D

It is a quote from Alexander Pope's poem An Essay on Criticism.

#2  #3  #2  #5,  2  7(#3 #4)  2  #6

Hints:
All words are on the same level.
Word 2 is pictured starting with “h”.  Ditch the “h”.
Word 3 is pictured starting with “h”.  Ditch the “h”.
Word 4. The one on the right.
Word 5. Same as word 1 (not pictured)
Word 6. Pictures 5 and 6 - in case you were losing track
Word 7. Same as word 3 (not pictured)

Regards, Jack

Hi Jack

I'm enjoying a nice lazy day.  Weather is cold & grey but I don't care!  We've been for a walk & contemplating Guinness bangers & chips a bit later on :)

A great rebus ;) I had a couple of false starts but got there in the end!

My rebus is a fairy tale.  I'm going to count the letters several times to make doubly sure ;D

Hints.  The middle picture is singular & in the last picture you're not interested in the flower.

Hi Pen,

The weather forecast said it was going to rain down in torrents today.  It is a pity they don’t look out their windows because it is an absolutely perfect day outside.  However, I expect their forecast will come true later today, so I will post the spoiler alerts now and get out and do some necessary gardening.  When the heavens open up, I will turn my mind to a rebus.

SPOILER ALERT – My last rebus

SPOILER ALERT – Pen’s last rebus

Hi Pen,

My rebus today is a journey from Europe to Asia made famous in Greek Mythology and again in 1810.

Hi Jack

I'm still puzzling & wrangling with your rebus ;D  I'm going to return to it after lunch :)

Meanwhile my rebus is a gent who died trying to break a record.  The puzzle is his name & his vehicle.

#6 8 (#4 + #4) - 8 (#4 + #4)

First name of gent in picture one.

I'm in need of sustenance & a cuppa :-H

Hi Again Jack

No1 daughter has solved your rebus :)

A smashing puzzle & very enjoyable.

I've just realised it's the first day of Spring here today.  Pity the weather hasn't twigged on yet :(

Hi Pen,

Spoiler Alert – My rebus Yesterday

Spoiler Alert – Pen’s Latest Rebus

Let me return the compliment on your rebus.

Australia has just started to administer the COVID vaccine and the anti-vaxxers have been trying to scare people about the dangers of taking it.  They gave Blue an earful of their nonsense, but he took my advice that he should get the jab and he had his dose of the vaccine at the vaccination center last Friday.

However, he began to have blurred vision on the way home and when he got home, he called the vaccination centre for advice and to ask if he should go see a doctor, or be hospitalised.

He was told NOT to go to a doctor or a hospital, but just return to the vaccination centre immediately and pick up his glasses.

On our Scotland trip in 2004, we stayed at Aviemore for a few days.  What would we do?  The answer is my rebus today.
