Sorry Mike you have me stumped! I did have a thought on what the film might be but that could be the first picture leading me astray! I'll come back to it later & hope for some divine inspiration

My puzzle is a comedy film from 1961.

Hi Pen and Mike

I couldn’t get your puzzle, Mike, but my daughter cracked it. I did get yours , Pen, but I think the date should be 1963.

If you can wait until I get back to Redlands this afternoon, I will put in a spoiler alert.

Hi Pen,

The view from the front verandah at 6 am
Two dirty dogs

It was an enjoyable short stay under some trying conditions caused by the wet weather.  But we had a couple of good dinners, played some card games and enjoyed the isolation.  I minded the dogs yesterday while the others went to the zoo next to the Big Pineapple and the Ginger factory.  We toasted marshmallows over a fire-pit in the early evening.  It was very messy for those of us lacking expertise.

As we were leaving today we decided to get some Bread at the Kenilworth Bakery to bring home.  By the time we got there (10.30) the had no bread loaves only rolls, no plain croissants only chocolate ones, and no vanilla slices.  My son-in-law ordered a flat white coffee for June and they said it came with a pastry.  They didn’t mention the coffee was in a donut.

Have you ever had a flat white like this?

I need a good night’s sleep before I can get my brain into gear.

Regards, Jack

Hi Jack

Glad you enjoyed your short trip.  Did somebody have to bath the dogs?

Zoe & I have been trying to work out how the flat white didn't soak into the donut & make it all soggy! & how on earth are you supposed to drink it?  Do they give you a soup spoon? >:D  I looked up the Big Pineapple & Ginger factory before realising it was 2 separate attractions :-R

You were quite right about the year of my film - oops!!

I have found a film which is actually from 1961! I've never heard of it but it has a very famous leading man.

Please name the film & the leading actor.

A guy comes home from work in the middle of the day, finds his wife standing in the middle of their luxury penthouse flat wearing a red G-string, high heels, and the whole apartment is flooded.
"What on earth happened here?" he asks.
"I think the waterbed developed a leak," says the trembling wife.
Just then a man floats by.
"Who's that?" demands the husband.
"I dunno" replies the wife "Must be a lifeguard."

Thinking about scampi & chips & mushy peas  :-H

Hi Pen,

I slept like a log.  Nothing beats sleeping in your own bed although I wasn’t sure about that when I was a teenager.

I managed to solve your puzzle.

For mine, I will dive 20 years further into the past.   The answer is a light-hearted 1941 mystery film about an amateur detective investigating a murder.

In the last picture, you only need one of the two words.

I will finish this post and put out a spoiler alert when we have walked the excess energy off a brown dog and caught up with a few other jobs.

Dusty went on to another Airbnb near a dog-friendly beach for the weekend.  If they can get him into the water that should do the trick. Bonnie is going to share a shower with me today - which won't be fun for either of us.

I understand the coffee did soak into the donut and made it soggy.  Apparently, the only way June could get any of the coffee was to tilt the cardboard container and sieve the coffee through the mush.  I sent the photo to a mate of mine and told him not to put a visit to the bakery on his Bucket List.

Blue showed me one of his job applications.  I was amused at the claim "I have sexdaily".  I can confirm he does have dyslexia.

Blue told me that Sheila said he had two big faults - "that he wouldn't listen and ---er   something else."

Blue asked me if I had any aphorisms so I gave him these
  • If I say I will do it, I will do it.  No need to remind me every six months.
  • To me, "Drink responsibly" means don't spill it
  • Never Laugh at you wife's choices.  You are one of them.
  • My body is a temple - ancient and crumbling and probably cursed or haunted.
  • Scientists say the universe is made up of protons, neutrons, and electrons.  They left out morons.
  • Some days the supply of swear words is not sufficient to meet my demands.
  • Patience is a virtue.  It's just not one of my virtues.

Love the aphorisms.
Amazingly, I can't remember ever seeing any of them on a t-shirt

Hi Mike

The inspiration for my aphorisms was an e-mail sent to me by one of my friends.  They were in the form of T-shirts.  I am not sure if they were photographed t-shirts or photoshopped.  My favourite of the ones I didn't use was

"The best thing about the good old days was that I wasn't old and I wasn't good"

The complete collection that was sent to me

Hi Jack

I thoroughly enjoyed both parts of your post.  Made me roar with laughter   Like Mike I love the aphorisms.  The thought of you sharing your shower with a muddy dog cracked me up!

I sorted your puzzle eventually.  I got transfixed by the chocolate >:D  I don't eat it in vast quantities & can by no means be classed as a chocoholic but it just made me really fancy some :-H

That's more my weapon of choice >:D

Zoe has come up with what I hope will be an enjoyable puzzle for you.  It's a book published in 1969.  It follows on from a rather more famous book.

Luckily we have a two-person shower and it needed both of us.

A showered dog.

Hi Pen,

Inspiration is at a low point today.

My puzzle is the first line of the second verse of a poem by a Scottish poet of some repute.

It won't help you to recognise the 3rd picture, it could be any picture of its type.
Just now I discovered the last picture is not coming out on iPads. It is a picture of a “lass”. Sorry about that.

Hi Jack

A quick visit as I'm a bit preoccupied.  We've had a fair bit of snow this morning & they are forecasting more for this evening & overnight :(  I've already been out & cleared my car once & am going to do it again in a little while.  I have to admit that I'm dreading what tomorrow morning will be like once it's all frozen.  It terrifies me driving on ice & snow.  I don't know whether to clear my car & leave it or cover the windscreen with an old sheet.  If it doesn't snow any more then the sheet will just freeze to the windscreen & wont be helpful.  I'll have a good dither & wish I was sitting in your garden enjoying the warmth :)

I loved the picture of the freshly showered Bonnie though I was slightly concerned that you'd accidentally brought the wrong dog home   She looks almost black in that picture - especially when compared with the one from the other day when she was all muddy! Having said that there's no mistaking her lovely face :)
I have to say it was very clever of you to incorporate her into your puzzle :)

What do you call 10 Arctic Hares hopping backwards through the snow together?
A receding hare line!

What's the difference between snowmen & snowladies?
Snowballs!

What do you call a snowman with a six-pack?
An abdominal snowman!

Better be brave & get to it!  Perhaps I could ski to work tomorrow >:D
