Pen, you asked for a hint.  You should take pride in the words you have worked out and give a loud shout of triumph.

Hi Jack

I'm having a very manic Monday for some strange reason.  I've started a post about 4 times & ended up having to discard it.  It's now nearly lunchtime & I'm off to fracture clinic this afternoon so I'm hoping I'll be able to do a proper post then.  Thanks for the answer to your post.  I was about 60% there

I'm back Jack

It looks like I'm going from one extreme to the other!  No x-ray appointments this afternoon & no outpatient appointments either so it's going to be a long afternoon.

My cheeky little puzzle is the title of a book & part of a quote from Shakespeare.

#2 #3 #8 #2 #2 #6

OF
Can you please name the author of the book & the Shakespeare play.
Famous last words but I think you'll find this a bit too easy peasy!

Little Johnny wanted to go to the zoo and pestered his parents for days. Finally his mother talked his reluctant father into taking him.
"So how was it?" his mother asked when they returned home.
"Great," Little Johnny replied.
"Did you and your father have a good time?" asked his mother.
"Yeah, Daddy especially liked it," exclaimed Little Johnny excitedly, especially when one of the animals came home at 20 to 1!"
(This one's for Les >:D)

I assume you mean the author of the novel which has the next line of the quotation as its title?

Sorry Mike it was meant to be just a quick & simple little puzzle!
Here's a clue to the author :)

Hi Pen,

I slept in this morning.  I will get to your puzzle after I post this.

As to the author of the Shakespeare play – was it Marlowe?

Bonnie?

I lined up these last night

The sun is just creeping over the trees.

Hi Jack

Was it nice to have a bit of a lie in?  The cartoon pictures of "Bonnie" made me roar with laughter

I seem to have caused a bit of confusion with my puzzle!  The puzzle is the title of a book & it is also part of a quote from a Shakespeare play. Sorry I didn't word my question very well.  Who wrote the book & what is the title of the play?  As an extra bonus perhaps you could complete the quote?

I'm going to find a large hole to climb into & then slump in front of the box!

Ah.  Caught out!

'By the pricking of my thumbs
Something wicked this way comes'

The words are spoken by the weird sisters (the witches) as Macbeth is about to enter the scene.

'Something Wicked This Way Comes' is the title of a novel by the late, great American author Ray Bradbury.
It's about the arrival in town of a carnival which is not all that it seems.
Take care if you ride the carousel.

11/10 Mike!  I love that quote - don't know why :)
The Ray Bradbury book sounds a bit too scary for me.  Probably give me nightmares   My Mum used to say it'd be a boring world if we all liked the same thing!

Ray Bradbury was best known as a writer of sci-fi - 'The Illustrated Man', 'A Sound of Thunder' (hunters travel back in time to shoot dinosaurs) and Fahrenheit 451, a dystopian novel set in a world where books have been banned, are among his best-known works.  Fahrenheit 451 sometimes appears on school reading and exam lists. Stephen King cites him as one of his major influences.
I'm not a massive fan of sci-fi, but I've always liked reading Ray Bradbury.

Jack, I finally got round to watching a film you recommended a few weeks ago: 'Enola Holmes' - the adventures of Sherlock and Mycroft's younger sister. I only have one word to say about the film - it was excellent.

G'day Jack

Another day in paradise!  It's warmed up to a positively tropical 7oc but it's bucketing down with rain.  Still I mustn't grumble as it's better than the white stuff!

I've gone off on a slightly different tack with my puzzle today.  It's a quote from a novel that's rather large & would probably make a handy door stop >:D

Please lose the first letter of the third picture.  Please give the title of the book & the author.

Found the last one by accident.  It's a bit old but it tickled me ;D

Social distancing has been particularly stressful for the members of the Flat Earth Society...
They fear such measures will push someone over the edge!

Hi Pen,

You have been excelling yourself with puzzles.  I think I have cracked your latest and I will put my answer in a separate spoiler alert, but I am not Russian to do so.

My puzzle is a short quote from a 1953 novel.  I am sure you will have heard of the book and the author this year.  The quote is long enough for google to give you the details. >:D

Hint: Picture 1- the answer is embedded in the name of the Australian bird.

Quote from: Barry Halverson (one of your mob) on Twitter
My son was wearing a 'Vote Conservative' T-shirt and an 'I love Boris' baseball cap. He's been spat at, abused, slapped round the head and told he's a brainless twat. God knows what's going to happen to him once he gets out of the house

Name the first politician these lines from Kipling bring to mind?
‘I could not dig: I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?’

I am in a bit of a rush because I can hear Bonnie stirring and another day in Paradise begins.

Hi Carol and Val,

Apologies for the number of modifications while you were online.  At my age, I should realise when I shortcut the processes because I am in a hurry, I usually take longer to get it right.  I think it is right now.
