Hi Pen,

You must be prescient.  Your golf cartoons were right on the mark.  We joined up at the Redland Bay Golf club yesterday as 5-day members.    That means we can only play competition golf  Monday to Friday but can play social golf on any day including over the weekend if there are vacant tee times.  We had to look up our handicaps and I was surprised to note we haven't played golf since early March - bloody COVID-19 and bad weather in the Highlands.  I expect we will not be playing much for a month or so here as we will be moving in and then settling a pup in but, as we found out again today, they do do a good lunch at subsidised prices.

Gidday Jack, have you started the big move to Redlands yet?
Where exactly are you going to, will you be on the beach or in the bush with the koalas?

Also curious about your golf handicap, i here that you are a pretty good player so would not be surprised if you had scratch handicap & by that i don't mean a zero handicap but rather when you hit the ball, you scratch your head & wonder where in the hell did that go. :)

G'day Les,

We now own a house in Redlands Bay.  Got the keys yesterday.  Still empty until our furniture from Mittagong arrives.

I am a scratch golfer but you have picked the wrong part of the anatomy I scratch.

I was a pretty good golfer.  In fact the older I gets, the better I was.

I can still hit it out of sight.  Pity I can't see it after about a hundred metres.

I'm glad to see you have got over your dislike of emojis.

Hi Jack

Here I am at work today.  I feel a bit like a
of
I think most of the patients seem to have got out of the wrong side of the bed this morning :(
Bit of a lame puzzle but it's the best can come up with

Still, only a couple of hours to go & I can go home :)

Can't believe it's that long since you played golf though looking back it does make sense.  I'm glad your new golf club is up to scratch & serves a good lunch at a reasonable cost >:D
Once you've got your furniture sorted & made the pup at home you'll be away with the mixer without having to worry about the weather :)

Leave you with a small random assortment!

I can still hit it out of sight.

Reminds me of a mate who came home and ruefully said to his wife, "I may have to give up golf, I cannot see where the ball lands."
She replied, "play golf with my older brother."

And so next weekend they did.

Whack, hit a great drive off the first tee.
"Can you see where it landed Bill?"
"Yes !"
"Where?"
"I forget"

In this context, what the heck are DNAs?

Hi Pen,

I think the answer to your puzzle is a 1961 American children's book written by Helen Palmer Geisel (credited as Helen Palmer) and illustrated by P. D. Eastman. The book is based on a short story by Palmer's husband Theodor Geisel (Dr. Seuss), "Gustav, the Goldfish", which was published with his own illustrations in Redbook magazine in June 1950.

Where did you find the expression "Up to Scratch", Pen

Did Not Attend I think. Probably very annoying to Pen. Currently also an annoying side effect or after effect of the virus as apparently people are booking scarce restaurant reservations and then not turning up. As the number of people allowed into the places are lower than usual due to social distancing it is already hard for the restaurants to make a profit so DNA's make it impossible. This is apparently affecting all levels of restaurant even up to Michelin star level. Some places are considering taking payment up front. It just goes to show that all the protestations of solidarity in society were a lot of hot air and many  people are just selfish and thoughtless after all.

Hi Jack

You got my simple little puzzle very easily :)

I'm not sure where I got 'up to scratch'.  I'm probably more likely to use it in the context of 'not up to scratch'  England lost the last Ashes series because they were not up to scratch
Ms Google says of 'up to scratch':-
This is an idiom that comes from the world of boxing. In the old days when boxing was still a primitive sport, a line was drawn in the centre of the ring. The line was called a scratch. Nowadays whenever a boxer is knocked down during the bout, all he/she has to do is to stand up before the referee counts to ten.
Most of my funny little idioms I inherited from my Mum & Dad!

Your cartoons really tickled me

My plan is to watch Knives Out a bit later with a glass of something which is probably pink in colour >:D  I missed it at the pictures so glad of the chance to see it now.

Pen,  how could you think such a thing.  For that to be true, I would have to have a wicked sense of humour.

This should make you want to dance

Is it still warm over there?  It’s a glorious day here today.

Time goes so quickly.  Our pups are 4 weeks old today/tomorrow.  This is probably what prompted them (The breeders not the puppies)to post 18 photos on Facebook.   I’ll just pass on 3 of my favourites.
