You are allowed to say smartarse, Pen.  You pasted one character to the left i.e. before the first left square bracket rather than after it. By one of life’s coincidences I had those two cartoons lined up to send to you in my next post. So I have to say “Well chosen cartoons, Pen”.   ;D

I’ll try to come up with something new later in the day.

It's awful here.  We have had a howling gale & torrential rain all afternoon.  Glad I'm indoors :)
I've found a couple of Christmassy cartoons which sum up my feelings at this time of year!

HI again, Pen.

I had a lovely lazy relaxing afternoon.  Temperature in the mid 80's on your scale.  I even watched a bit of cricket on the idiot box.  We are in the middle of a thunderstorm now but it waited until after dark to present itself.

The only way to enjoy the weather you have been having is to curl up in an armchair in front of a roaring fire and forget the  rosé, a thumping big glass of port is what the doctor ordered.

Now, Pen, what's this about bah humbug?  I know Christmas can be stressful but you can get a lot of fun out of it.

If it hadn't cost me a rosette I'd say Adios
Ah what the hell, it's not like me to be morose

Hi Jack
Can't believe it's sunday night already.  As well as contemplating work in the morning I have a bloody cold >:(
Courtesy of one of the elderly rellies on Thursday.  Wish she'd message to say she had a stinking cold & do I still want to visit.  I would have postponed for a few days & hopefully would have stayed germ free. Never mind that's life.
I enjoyed both your cartoons.  It must be weird having hot weather at Christmas?  Presumably you don't have snow on your Christmas cards
Anyway I've had a lovely lazy day & put up my Christmas tree.  No1 daughter normally does it.  It took me nearly an hour to work out how to secure the 3 pieces of tree into the base without it falling over :o

I'm off to exercise my little grey cell
Sadly, there's no one here I can tell!
Happy Monday

Hi Pen,

This is the season for giving and sharing but your aged rellies should have known there are some exceptions.  :)

Anyway, Pen you know the cure -

Actually the Whisky, or even better Bundaberg OP Rum, doesn't cure the cold but it makes you feel a lot happier while you've got it. ;D

The problem these days, Pen, is finding funny Christmas Cards that wouldn't make you aged rellies blush.  Not a problem for me, I've outlived all my aged rellies.  >:D

Seriously though you would be surprised how many families in Australia with British/European backgrounds, no matter how many generations back, celebrate Christmas as if it were in mid-winter.

How come you had to put the Christmas tree up yourself?  Has No.1 daughter gone on strike?

When you get home from work on Monday,
Get stuck in to a bottle of overproof Bundy.

Hi Jack
I looked up overproof Bundy.  Sounds just what I need.  Think you'd better dispatch a bottle post haste
I loved the cartoons - especially last year's Christmas tree
No1 daughter isn't on strike, thank heavens   She was out all day yesterday & as I was home alone I thought I'd get the tree done.
Better do some work I reckon!
Bottoms Up

Not that I'm contributing much to this thread, but I just wanted to let you know I do stop in every day or two to see the cartoons.  I can identify with a couple of these recent ones: I put up my artificial Christmas trees (I live in a warm apartment where a long-term real tree would become a fire hazard) yesterday and noticed that not only were there the usual plastic needles all over the floor, but that the trees themselves are beginning to look a little bit like the cartoon's "last year tree."  Luckily there are so many ornaments that hopefully, most people won't notice.

And because I never do things the simple way, here's the other tree.  Really, they are just the size of one tree - because the room is narrow, I have two half-trees - they are split vertically.

Great trees Birdy :)  Love all your decorations & ornaments.  Have you got lights?  Multi coloured or plain white??

ARRHH, Ahoy, Pen.

I am not sure I should encourage you to drink rum, Pen, I wouldn't want you to get three sheets to the wind.

Even pirates sometimes have to go to the doctor.  One went to get the moles checked on his back. The doctor says, "There's nothing to worry about, they're benign."

The pirate looks at him surprised and says... "Shiver me timbers! When I spied them in me looking glass this morning, there be only 3!"

I’m off to splice the mainbrace

Hi Birdy,

Good to hear from you.

The reason Pen and I keep our conversation public is that we hope that others will share the enjoyment that we get from our attempts to jolly each other along.  It's great to occasionally get feedback that this is the case and even greater when others join in.

I loved the story of your tree.  I am (un)lucky enough to have a live tree in a big pot in the back yard and I have to risk a hernia each year dragging it inside to be decorated (by others with talent ;D) and back out again on January 6th.

TRex,

I'd wager Birdy has her catalogue in an on-line data base. >:D

Found a couple of cartoons to tickle your fancy!
I'm going to have to attach them at the bottom as they wouldn't just "copy".
What exactly is splicing the mainbrace I wonder?  Must consult Mr Google.

Hi Jack
Totally brilliant :) You tickled my fancy too! Really loved the picture with all the Aussie wildlife.  That would make a great Christmas card.
Santa with his foot in the loo is hilarious  (sorry should that be dunnie? >:D)
I've had a very knackering day so just a small offering from me this evening.
