Les, believe me, I wasn't offended at all - just couldn't see the point of the violence. And yes, it was the first time I'd seen anything from that programme, and so the lack of background may have made a difference.
I agree with you about Rowan Atkinson. So funny. Something that surprised me about him is that he is one of those men whose looks are really enhanced by a beard. I don't think of him as a particularly good-looking man, but in Blackadder 2 he looked stunning.

I am sure that if Jack & i were " conned " into ecsorting you & your friend to see such a picture we would still manage to have a " fun " night out.
Our comments & interjections thoughout the entire movie, would keep ourselves amused while at the same time enhance your viewing pleasure, either that or possibly ruin the entire picture for you & anybody else within hearing distance which would ensure that we were never again invited to suffer through such a picture.

Count me out on this one, mate.  I wouldn't behave like that even on my worst behaviour and if I had been granted the honour of escorting Pen and her friend, I would certainly be on my best behaviour.  For the record I think I would like the "Book Club".

Quote from: Les in a different post

Family Guy is one of those type of programs that you either love or hate, i loved it because they are so ridiculously over the top & outrageous that you just have to laugh & of course they can get away with it because it is an animation.

It is the type of program I hate.  I am not opposed to over the top and outrageous if it is funny but if I can't see the humour in it at all, there is an alternative to laughing and that is change channels which is what I did on the odd occasion when I sampled it to see if I would like it.  Other people obviously think it has merit and so I might have a defective sense of humour but as Len Evans said "Life is too short too drink poor wine" and by extension to waste your time watching shows  you don't like.

There is one bit in the film where this lady thinks her husband no longer wants to have sex with her.  She slips a couple of Viagra into his bottle of beer.  The result while he is driving them home is hilarious.

I wish we had understanding policewomen like that in Australia.

Apparently {see previous post} so do I.

I love all these cricket related wines you keep coming up with.  Not quite so keen on red as it gives me a headache next morning!  I still had to look it up first to make sure you weren't pulling my leg.  Sorry >:D

The red only gives you a headache if you go to sleep after drinking it.  Didn’t you realise it is the sleep that gives you the headache.  ;D However, I won’t recommend the Brokenwood Cricket Pitch: Cabernet Sauvignon – Merlot blend for you but will recommend the Brokenwood Cricket Pitch: Semillon – Sauvignon Blanc Blend.

Happy sipping.

Les, I'm so sorry, I'd like to be able to agree, but the voice of the aggressor in this sounds too American and nasal in a non-Mayall way for me to mistake it for Rik Mayall's, although there were flashes. The clip is quite disturbing, isn't it!
Penny - I agree about Mayall in Blackadder, which by the way is for me still one of the funniest things we've had on television. I read somewhere that he had taken the romantic lead in something (unnamed, unfortunately) and had been very good.
Have to agree Anona.  I watch very little American TV. One of the exceptions was Frasier.  I'm posting a clip where Niles irons his trousers & manages to set his brother's apartment on fire.  There's no dialogue but it just tickles me. Niles

You're also spot on about Rowan Atkinson with the beard ;)

Evening Jack
Glad you too have a warped sense of humour >:D
I hadn't realised that it was sleeping after red wine that gives you the headache!  Next time I enjoy a nice glass of red (I do really enjoy it which is why it's frustrating :-R) I'll make sure I sit up all night :-P
I would be very pleased to have you escort my friend & I to the cinema but sadly I think we'd have to leave Les at home (sorry Les )
I'm off to give my last remaining couple of little grey cells a small airing!

Les we'll have to come up with a name for your many syndromes

I was looking forward to Les and you naming his syndromes but it looks like he has let it go through to the keeper.  Speaking of cricket, Pen, you didn’t say whether you checked up on the Cricket Pitch wines to see if I was pulling your Leg.  I assume you had and found out that once again I was on the level.

So here’s a couple of recommendations to test your credulity:

The first is not a single wine but a range of wines.  It is one Les might unkndly say I have a particular affinity with. The South African Fat Bastard range comprises Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonay, Malbec, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Rosé, Sauvignon Blanc, a sparkling White and Syrah.  You should be able to find something you would like;

I am not sure if my second recommendation is for cricket tragics or for admirers of the way Queenslanders solve their disputes but you should recommend to your friends the Tait Wines ,The Ball Buster Shiraz.

Happy sipping.

Evening (Morning!) Jack
I checked out the two wines that you recommended.  Happy to report that they both exist >:D
I forgot about a wine that always tickles me.  Chat-en-Oeuf.  The label has a picture of a cat sat on an egg.  I know it's the little things but I do think it's brilliant! Another one that makes me smile is Goats do Roam.  South African I think.
My friend & I visited Chateaneuf du Pape on one of our holidays 2 or 3 years ago.  Beautiful village.  We didn't sample the wine.  Horrendously expensive :o  One of our party tried the white which I believe is quite unusual.
I have racked my brain for a name for Les's many syndromes but have so far have drawn a blank ???
Happy Slurping!

I think that it is best left for others to decide on a suitable name for any syndrome that i might be afflicted with, based on how they perceive me.

I am also at a loss as to how to best describe my sense of humour, it is definitely warped & weird & there are no boundaries but i would like to think that it is mostly just whimsical.

Objective attained, I have been uninvited from having to a suffer through a viewing of the " Book Club " or for that matter, any other chic flick.

I have watched a lot of Frasier shows but i had never seen the " Niles " clip,  i particularly enjoyed the performance of " Eddie. "
Pen, did you ever see the earlier series called " Cheers " which ran for many years.
This is the show where Frasier Crane was first invented & " Frasier " was a just spinoff from that show which was never expected to have as much success.
I couldn't find any clips of " Cheers " but i did come across this Kelsey Grammer interview which you might find interesting.

I admired your rhymes and the way of presenting them in another thread so as a reward I found a little Cheers.

Thanks Jack, I am sure that Pen, will appreciate the link, especially if she has never seen the show before.

When i first moved into my apartment building at Spring Hill , i had a lot of things to organise & familiarise myself with so i prioritised accordingly & my first objective was of course to identify what would be my local, not as easy as it sounds because i was spoilt for choice.
As it turned out the closest venue was just 5 minutes walk down the hill, to this day,  for some reason which i cannot understand that 5 minute walk back home up the hill can take up to 30 minutes?
Anyway, would you believe that the name of my local was " Cheers " & the first time that i went there i was served by a barman who recognised me as a newcomer & introduced himself as Sam. ( Sam Malone was the head barman & main character from the T.V. show Cheers ).
Jack, i tried to come up with some  facts & figures for you but i just do not have your incredible googling skills, i can tell you that Cheers on Boundary Road was originally named the International Hotel but changed their named to Cheers for many years before new management decided to go upmarket & reverted to their original name which they still retain today.

Cheers Les

Les,

I only have one question.  Does anybody drink this?

The 6.3% Aeroplane Jelly Beer is 'interestingly' coloured and jell-icious! Try this limited edition beer on tap now at Archer's Bunker, downstairs at The International Hotel, from 5pm till late Friday and Saturday. Better invite your mates too or they'll be totally jell-ous...

Happy Slurping!

Those are a couple of fantastic beers, Pen, and you are right Goats do Roam is South African and has an interesting back story for any interested in Googling it.

They beat the sox of my MOLLYDOOKER Shiraz 'Carnival of Love' 2014 and MOLLYDOOKER Cabernet Sauvignon 'Gigglepot' 2015.

But to change the subject, Les seems to have the impression that you are unfamiliar with the show “Cheers”.  In the improbable possibility that he is right, I have included a few samples for you and since you like Niles in Frasier, I have included one of those.

I hope this isn't an exclusive interchange I'm butting in on, so apologies if it is. I greatly enjoyed Cheers; I thought the best ever was The Psychiatrist episode with John Cleese. Diane's face and behaviour while Sam is being questioned is a picture, and Sam's "babe in the bikini" has become a household phrase in this particular household! I tried to find a clip to post but failed. What a shame John Cleese let them down over a follow-up episode - but of course we don't know what was behind that.

On the contrary, Anona, I think Pen would agree that we feed off each other to provide an ongoing conversation and introduced material* which we enjoy and hope some# others would also enjoy and we are delighted when it sparks others to contribute to the conversation.

I couldn’t get a clip on that episode "Season 5, Episode 21 Simon Says" either, although I can get the episode on Itunes for $A3.49.

I did find a sort of explanation why John Cleese didn’t participate in the follow up episode,

Quote from: David Lee, former CHEERS producer (later FRASIER co-creator), who along with his partner, Peter Casey, wrote the classic John Cleese episode of CHEERS.

This episode was filmed just after I left the show, but I was around for the lead up to it. Though my memory isn't the best, this is the gist of what I remember from being around campus at the time.

Season 7, episode 22. "The Visiting Lecher" . The script was written by David Lloyd and was originally intended as a vehicle for the John Cleese character, Dr.Simon Finch Royce. Mr. Cleese had expressed an interest in returning to the show, and everyone was thrilled that he was interested in coming back to revisit the character. A story was broken specifically for him, and David went enthusiastically to work. A great script resulted and was put into the production schedule. Shortly before they were scheduled to go into rehearsal, Mr. Cleese's people called up to inform us that he was, as I remember, "too tired" or something and would not be doing the episode. It was quickly rewritten (if you knew Mr Lloyd you can imagine what he had to say about that!) and John McMartin was hired to play Dr. Lawrence Crandall, who, if you look closely, is very similar to Dr. Finch-Royce. It turned out to be a fine episode, but the once fondly remembered name of Mr. Cleese was- how shall we put this? -- Not.
