I very much liked The Seekers song. The words & music. It would certainly make a great national anthem.
I was after the song and I had at least six choices. Most were sung by multicultural school children which were cute and heightened the message but in the end I went for the professional production and I love Judith Durham’s voice.
I'd Like To Have A Beer With Duncan (was that for Les' benefit? )
No, it wasn’t for Les's benefit, but if it had been, it would have still been in line with what I wanted to achieve.
In the Slim Dusty trio, I was trying to illustrate ideal Australian characteristics, which although most of us cannot live up to, we admire greatly in the Australian stereotype.
- In g’day g’day, I was presenting the laid back informal friendliness we project even to strangers,
- In Duncan, I wanted to present how much we value mateship. Slim’s song presented it in a light hearted fashion, I have read many times that the Australian’s reputation on the battlefield was based not on the individual’s love for King (Queen) and Country and certainly not to please the bloody officers but on mateship because each was prepared to risk all to look after their mates.
- In The Man from Snowy River, I wanted to highlight our love of perseverance, courage and the satisfaction we get when the perceived underdog battles through to carry the day. I’m sorry it didn’t grab you – I always get a lump in my throat when I listen to it.
I very much enjoyed the first clip. The other 2 clips said "sorry not available"
I would like to get to the bottom of this. I tested the links before I posted and I tested them in the quote in your return post. They worked perfectly. My theory is that
YouTube has servers in each country and perhaps the material on them differs.
So I would appreciate feedback if the links did not work for anybody in Australia and if they worked for anybody outside of Australia.I must admit, I didn’t put any effort into choosing the Jack Thompson pieces. It was the man I wanted to highlight, mainly because, as you say, he “sounded a proper character!”
It seems unfair that you are tasked with hunting for scantily clad women for Les, so I have tried to even the score with the
Cleo Centre page: Jack Thompson. It’s a pity the wowsers used Photoshop to blur out the more interesting bits.
I would love to join you & Les for a drink. Mine's a nice chilled glass of wine
Note to Les: Looks like when we do this, we will have to drink in the Ladies Lounge. I don’t like our chances of getting a chilled glass of wine in the Public Bar (or have traditional Pubs changed in the 20 years since I was last in one) .
Tinkety tonk old fruit
