G'day Les
besides it gives me a good excuse to keep annoying Ozzyjack.

G'day, Les.  Annoying Ozzyjack is fair game and I approve and I loved your poem. I like to give and if you give it and can’t take it, you are a Dick, and I don’t mean Tracy.

But would you do me a favour.  Hit "modify" in your post to Pen and

Code: [Select]

restore the line "
" above "G'day Les"
or at least insert "
" there

It will make the post look much more professional and I'm sure Pen would appreciate it.

If you wish, I will cover tricks with quotes in lesson 2

{url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ac9XE2KoxgSick em Rex{/yrl}

Is this correct & why are my brackets squiggly rather than straight & does that even matter?

If it is correct how do i convert it to just Sick em Rex

Close, Les. but no cigar.   It does matter that you are using "{}" rather than "[]" but even then it would not work because you left out the "]" between the http link and your description Sick em rex.  But congratulations on using change color and change font.  That was going to be in lesson 3.  But even then it would not  work because in the end bit you typed "/yrl" instead of "/url".

If you were being serious about why were you brackets curly, it was because you had your finger on the shift key.  "{" is to "[" as "A" is to "a".

Code: [Select]
Now try Sick em Rex

I was going to say it was because you were using a banned ad  >:D but that would have been frivolous and I am seriously trying to help. >:(

Firstly, i really do apologise for the " yrl " , just a stupid typo that is not making your task any easier & sadly, i was fair dinkum about the brackets, i always thought that  the only way to bring up a bracket was with the shift key, as both the squiggly & straight options are on the key, i thought the idea was that if you wanted the straight one then you would just hit shift & press the bottom portion of the key where the straight icon is displayed, always wondered why that never worked ( i was actually having concerns that my computer thinks that i am not straight ), i had no idea that you could bring up the straight bracket simply by pressing that key without the shift.

I'll have another go shortly, just have a visitor at the moment.

Thanks Jack, really do appreciate your help with this.

Only your computer could make that mistake, Les, unless you have been telling us porkies.

I may be many things but I am certainly not a liar ( telling jokes excluded ), there was a time when I first got my computer that I thought that it must be gay ( not that there is anything wrong with that ) because we could never get along but slowly but surely, over time we have developed a workable relationship.

No.  You had three things to do.  You did two and didn't do the third. To make up for it you made two changes to things that were right.

Make these three changes
 • Delete the slash which you inserted as the second character in your string
 • Change the first right parenthesis back to "="
 • Insert a right parenthesis before "antz Pantz"

Hit preview to see if it works, if it doesn't change whatever need changing to make it look like this

Code: [Select]

Antz Pantz

I don't understand what I am doing wrong, when I hit preview, it still comes up with https but yours comes up in blue as just Antz Pantz "?

this is the code you provided me with ;

Antz Pantz

I have hit modify because this post shows the http address even though I have made the url additions which are showing on this page?

Actually when I click on my link it does nothing, when I click on your Antz Pantz link it takes me straight to the ad?

I tried to copy & paste the code that you had provided to show that I was duplicating it exactly but it just comes up as Antz Pantz ?

I totally loved that ad.  And it's still famous.  The young lady involved was interviewed only a couple of months ago.  After how many years?  Nothing to do with beer of course.  Have we moved on?  Yeah, let's do it!

Val, glad that you liked the ad, i have definitely moved on from but not excluded beer ads.
There is no need for any category at all, the intention as far as i am concerned is that if anyone comes across anything ( no matter the topic ) that they think others might find amusing, then post it.

I noticed recently that you were very quickly able to understand how to embed a link.
Ozzyjack is doing his very best to explain it to me but perhaps a different perspective from your good self?

Oh Les, It won't surprise you to learn that I'm a total luddite when it comes to technology.  Stick with Ozzyjack.  All the best Val x

Les: what I did was type EXACTLY what Ozzyjack said to type (I always do as I'm told!).  Don't bother with any of the other fluffy bumph he says to do.  Just type all the brackets and the other bits and pieces in between as he's instructed (assuming, of course, you have already got up the link in your post and are typing around it as you are supposed to do - don't change anything in the link itself).  If at first it doesn't succeed, keep "modifying" until you get it right.  Good luck.

G'day Les
I'm feeling a little tiny bit smug as I think I've finally successfully posted a link :)
I'm going to try one more just to make sure!

Be happy & healthy Les
Pen

You have done really well
Always knew that you would
Jack likes to raise hell
But we're just too good.

Pen, you are entitled to feel a little smug as you have obviously mastered the art of posting a link.
Just a word of warning, if you are anything like me, make sure that you use " your new found power " regularly, otherwise within a few months you will have forgotten how to do it.
I hope that your doing better than me with the next bit where you can change the name of the link, it has me bamboozled.

Ozzyjack has reminded me that i actually asked Cal this same question about 6 months ago & although Cal immediately gave me the solution, i couldn't work out how to implement it so i just let it go.
This time around, i am determined to persevere until i learn how to embed a link, besides it gives me a good excuse to keep annoying Ozzyjack.

Jack, the above was my reply to Pen, it includes the " G'day Les " quote so i'm not sure what you would like me  to modify.

In any case, you must realise by now just what a lovely & easy going type of person that Penny is, she would be the last one in the world to be worried about spelling mistakes, bad grammar, miss leading or missing quotes or even total omissions, all that she has ever cared about is the content & context of my posts, when they are good, she will let me know & when they are bad she will also let me know but in a very subtle manor.

Thank you Valerie.

Les, I have now finished dinner with a bottle of white and a bottle of red and I am calm and relaxed.

Let’s backtrack

You presented your latest effort and asked is this any closer.
Code: [Select]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ac9XE2KoxgAntz Pantz

I replied, among other things, do these three things – let’s take them one at a time and see the result

1. Delete the slash which you inserted as the second character in your string
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ac9XE2KoxgAntz Pantz
2. Change the first right parenthesis back to "="

3. Insert a right parenthesis before "Antz Pantz"
Antz Pantz

Copy this to your post and you will see it works.  Voila.  We can use this template for any url link
”your text”

so           is fixed.

All you have to do is copy your url link into the first space.   Type what you want to show into the second spacei

Copy it into your post.  Give it a go.
