G’day Les,

Great resource, the only problem there are so many sketches it is hard to sort the wheat from the chaff.

I reviewed all of the main page. I noted the ones I would have voted a “1”, maybe even a “2” for the sheepdog, for my own library.

I’ve listed them here, except for the one Valerie had already contributed, in case it makes life easier for the forumites.

BEER ADS

GENERAL SKETCHES

Enjoy

While I was scouting around looking at YouTube, I came across another couple of “Two Ronnies” which I think are above average.

Good Evening Jack
I thoroughly enjoyed the Two Ronnies sketches thanks
I also loved the Smartest Sheepdog & the Heinekin Ad  Was that really Jennifer Aniston?? or a look alike?!
Hope the golf is going well :)

I had to look up who Jennifer Aniston is but, yes, it was the real Jennifer Aniston in the Heinekin Ad.

Not going at all this week.  We had some storm damage to the ceiling a couple of years ago and we are finally getting it fixed, so have to stay close to home with the Border Collies while the Tradesman are doing whatever they have to do.

I have a couple more but they are getting increasingly weak, so I will be a gentleman and let you have the last word. ;D

Pen, like anything, it is not hard if you know the tricks of the trade but impossible if you don’t and with computers you have to be so damn precise.  The trick for putting a link in is you have to put the whole URL in – that is the bit that starts with httpsWhen I came to post this, I see that Les is on the ball this morning..  I always draft long posts in Word and copy to the forum for final editing, so I am not changing the draft unless I find mistakes.

To post your link you have needed to have inserted
Code: [Select]

Spot on, Les

Once you have mastered that you can look at the exchange between Valerie and I recently on how to just show the description in the link. E.g.

HARP LAGER - DOG 1989

It took me ages to realise how to do this - and to show off, here is a similar ad for good luck

A pint of Harp and a packet of dates, please

Have a great day.

I want to be able to show off as well, (i can see the potential for a bit of fun in being able to put my own title to a link ) but mate, if you don't mind, you are going to have to dumb down the instructions a hell of a lot more, probably into tiny little baby steps if there is any chance of me & (I suspect Pen ) ever learning this trick.

I thought that you might enjoy the link below, which i came across on utube.
My method is to simply copy that http link from utube & paste it into my post. (thanks to Pat for teaching me that one )

https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=border+collie+dog+tricks&view=detail&mid=5A29540A1C8F29B434915A29540A1C8F29B43491&FORM=VIRE

Having done that how or when should i insert the url = " thingy " to change the name, there is no modify option until after i post ?

I hope that you enjoy the antics of Nana & i also hope that you are up for what may be a very painstaking challenge for you to get me to master this skill.
The collective sighs of relief that you can hear in the background are from Alan, Mike, Pat & Stan who are the ones that i usually ask my naive computer questions of, hopefully the more computer literate followers of this thread will be amused by our upcoming exchanges.

I really enjoyed the antics of Nana – you can always win my heart with Border Collie videos.

Les, you have picked a poor teacher. There are a number of professional teachers in the forum who would do the job better but I will give it my best shot.

I will go through the general theory in another post using “quotes” as an example but for this post let us concentrate on getting you to send a link with your own title by following specific instructions.

Use the "reply" button so we don’t confuse the post with quotes.

Introduce the video in your usual manner.  If you use my example, “Here is another Speight’s ad” would be appropriate.

Either copy this url and paste it into your post
Code: [Select]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TA6RnH8CNE

Or use one of your own exactly as you described in your post.
Code: [Select]
Put your cursor just in front of the “h” in https and type “[url="

Place your cursor at rear of the url and type ”]”
If you use my example, typing “Speight – locked in a Brewery for the weekend' would be appropriate.  If you use your own url, type whatever takes your fancy.

Then type “, Hit "enter" to get on a new line.  Needless to say you don't type any of the inverted commas. :)

Jobs done. Finish off with anything you want to say.

Hit “preview’” and see whether it works.  If it doesn’t , either you haven’t followed the instructions or I’ve buggered them up giving them to you.  Let me know.

No reasonable person will be amused. Everybody appreciates learning a new skill is not easy and will do anything they can to help you achieve it..

Les, I stuffed it, I was being called to tea and I didn't check thoroughly.  I left one "[" out and that's all it takes to stuff it.  I have now fixed it I hope. What you should have using my example is
Code: [Select]
Speight locked in a brewery for a weekend

Sorry about that.

By the way  do you remember asking this question and getting this answer before.

Thanks Jack you are a proper gentleman :)
Unfortunately, I'm a bit of a technophobe!  That's my excuse anyway.  It's probably more likely that I've got a memory like a goldfish & I forget what I've learnt in about 5 seconds flat :-R
I've found a few of the old Carling Black Label Ads & will have one last attempt at posting a link...

Success, Pen.  I hear they are going to make a Swan Brewery ad with you as the heroine and the theme song will be

Les thought she’d never make it,
But she finally come through,
Les thought she’d never make it,
But Pen posted a link to Carling Brew.

We'll soon have you embedding links like the one below.

Is this correct & why are my brackets squiggly rather than straight & does that even matter?

If it is correct how do i convert it to just Sick em Rex

You have done really well
Always knew that you would
Jack likes to raise hell
But we're just too good.

Pen, you are entitled to feel a little smug as you have obviously mastered the art of posting a link.
Just a word of warning, if you are anything like me, make sure that you use " your new found power " regularly, otherwise within a few months you will have forgotten how to do it.
I hope that your doing better than me with the next bit where you can change the name of the link, it has me bamboozled.

Ozzyjack has reminded me that i actually asked Cal this same question about 6 months ago & although Cal immediately gave me the solution, i couldn't work out how to implement it so i just let it go.
This time around, i am determined to persevere until i learn how to embed a link, besides it gives me a good excuse to keep annoying Ozzyjack.

Close, Les. but no cigar.   It does matter that you are using "{}" rather than "[]" but even then it would not work because you left out the "]" between the http link and your description Sick em rex.  But congratulations on using change color and change font.  That was going to be in lesson 3.  But even then it would not  work because in the end bit you typed "/yrl" instead of "/url".

If you were being serious about why were you brackets curly, it was because you had your finger on the shift key.  "{" is to "[" as "A" is to "a".

Code: [Select]
Now try Sick em Rex

I was going to say it was because you were using a banned ad  >:D but that would have been frivolous and I am seriously trying to help. >:(
