John (ridethetalk) can’t get the second picture in the rebus.  If anyone else is having this problem can you let me know what system and browser you are using.
Sorry Jack & John but I can't see John's rebus at all. I've checked several times & feel like I'm losing the plot!
The last rebus of John's I can see was a couple of days ago - the Genesis album.

It was in my rebus that John couldn't get the second picture.  I should have made that clear but after spending half an hour trying to see what the problem might be when all I wanted to do was get to sleep, my brain was a bit foggy.  So rest assured your plot is still in it's accustomed space. >:D

Hi Pen,

Quiche Lorraine made with goats cheese for lunch.

You will find cold comfort in solving this English idiom.

8(#4  #4)  (#2 #3)  2  3  8( #4  #4)

Conceptually one line.
The definite article not pictured
Picture 4 & 5. Use only the first syllable.

I’ll leave you with this thought

Regards, Jack

Hi Jack

It's grey, cold & rather dreary & manky here today :(  Zoe & I have been out for a walk & met up with an old work friend of mine to exchange Christmas cards.  We didn't linger longer!

I love quiche but have to admit I'm not a big fan of goats cheese.

I'm still puzzling your rebus at the minute.  Might have to ask the brains of the operation for a bit of assistance ;D

Meanwhile my rebus is a novel published in the 1940's.

Please lose the first letter of picture two & the first & last letters of picture five.  Picture four is a homophone & properly gives me the willies   Oh & please pretend it's all on one line.

You can tell these Christmas lights are British because setting 8 suggests you might have become over-excited by the first 7 settings and need to get a grip of yourself!

This just tickled me ;D

Hi Jack

Our weather seems to be deteriorating - a bit like the cricket :(  It's 3oc & quite foggy today.

I've had a busy but quite productive day.  Written the remainder of my Christmas cards & wrapped my presents.

Your last rebus was a cracker :)  Took us a lot of wrangling to solve it!

My rebus today is a novel published in 2019 by an author famous for espionage books.

This is a say what you see puzzle & the picture placing is deliberate.  You're not interested in Mr Clooney just what he is.
You could replace the last picture with

My neighbour just told me he has an intolerance to wheat but he had just eaten a whole loaf of bread...
he's a gluten for punishment!

Awkward moment at the supermarket yesterday…
The cashier said, "Strip down, facing me."
By the time I realised she meant my debit card, it was too late!

Need to pop out & put a couple of cards through doors before it gets dark.

Hi Pen,

Bangers and Mash for dinner two nights ago.  Ploughman’s lunch Yesterday  Eye Filet roast for dinner.  Bread and Dripping today. :D

We only send a handful of Christmas Cards to the technology challenged.  The rest of our Christmas greetings are handled by exchange of emails – which unfortunately takes up more time.

This is a short one this morning.   I haven’t had time to look at your rebus yet.

I’ll leave you with this:

Mine's two clues / one answer

1 #4 #2 #3 / 7 (#3 #4) #6 = #5

A/

Picture 2 is, of course, a homophone...

Hi John,

I deciphered the words but it meant nothing to me.  But Ozzymandias who has a great knowledge of many esoteric subjects twigged it immediately.  I've added it to the spoiler alert I published earlier this morning.

When it was explained to me, I realised what a clever rebus it was.

I'm glad you liked it, Jack.

A couple of hikers from Europe came to Queensland to walk in the Daintree - one of them a Czech, the other from Poland. They went to the ranger station to advise the ranger that they were intending to do an unguided trek which the ranger thought ill-advised. Eventually he acquiesced on the proviso that they take a satellite phone with them and call in each night at 6pm with their location and how they were doing.
On the first night, bang on 6pm, they called in - the ranger was impressed. They had set up camp and were cooking dinner. On the second night, again at 6pm, the called in to say that again they'd set up camp and were looking forward to a nice meal of freshly caught fish. Again the ranger was impressed.
Come the third night there was silence - not a word was heard from them. The ranger was concerned but not at this stage alarmed. If they hadn't called in by morning they would send out a search party. Come morning there was still no word so they set off with a search party to the last known location. Before long they came to a clearing by the river where two rather well-fed looking crocodiles were basking in the sun - one male, one female. The ranger, guessing what might have happened, killed the crocs. He slit open the female and there inside was the still undigested remains of the Pole. The ranger then said "Just as I suspected, the Czech's in the male!"

A shaggy dog tale to brighten your day...  ;D ;D ;D
