Pen & Mike,
I understood that the saying is:

Ne’er cast a clout, till May is out.

Ne’er as in Ne(v)er.
Perhaps I’ve got it wrong all these years, won’t be the first time.

Hi Jack

It's a beautiful sunny morning & I'm at work so I'm

The clootie dumpling looks delicious but like you I'd have to pass on the clotted cream.  I'd prefer vanilla ice cream :-H

I enjoyed your rebus :)  Took me several attempts but got there in the end.  I've got most of Mike's but the moustachioed chap has me baffled

I'm going to follow your lead & use the opening of a nursery rhyme.  I suspect this will be a bit easy but I'm doing it between patients & don't want to lose my thread!

Hi Tony

If you're wrong then we're wrong together   That's how I've always said it & that's what I was aiming for with my puzzle :)

No. Your version of the saying is quite correct.

I think, however, Jack was wondering why a picture of a horse would suggest 'ne'er'

To try to forget England's penalty kicks defeat, I'm giving you a rather obscure 1987 British musical with a very unusual, dare I say, intriguing title.
It does have a couple of well-known stars, however.
I'm fairly sure you will need to consult Wiki, IMDb or Ms Google at least to confirm your answer.

eight words - 5/3/3/3/3/5/5/7

an 'and' and two definite articles are not pictured

picture 3 - singular

Hi Pen,

Some cartoons about north of the border to warm you up for my rebus today.

A movie released timely before the Melbourne Olympics. Some billboards have it with the adjective, some not.

I only watched the first half Mike & then returned for the penalty shoot out.  I watched an episode of Brokenwood in between :)  From the little I saw I think Italy deserved to win & were the better team.  Zoe doesn't like football at all but even she commented that if it goes to penalties then we're sunk.

I'm having a bit of difficulty with your rather sneaky rebus!  I have to go out in about an hour so I think I'll return to it a bit later & wait for inspiration to strike

Hi Jack

A cracking bunch of cartoons which helped me on the way with your rebus :)

My simple rebus is a film from 2002.  Here's hoping I haven't used it before :-\

Please change the first letter of the first picture & remove the first letter from the second.

I popped across the water for a couple of my cartoons ;D

I'd better get a move on - got an appointment in a little while!

My favourite book of all time is also a radio show, a TV show, an LP, a very disappointing Hollywood movie and many other things

five words plus an optional definite article at the beginning (3) /11/5/2/3/6

picture 1 - first syllable only of his surname
picture 3 - any one of them

I think we all knew what it was going to be, Mike, before we even scrolled down.

Yes, it probably is a bit easy.
I have mentioned a couple of times in posts what my favourite book is - the source of the quotation under my picture,
Never mind, it makes up for yesterday's which was probably quite obscure,

Hi Pen,
I am getting a late start. Our Coorparoo mob returned from their 5300+km jaunt around Northern and Central Qld on Sunday and retrieved Dusty from his farm holiday yesterday.  So we went over to let the pups release a bit of energy and get a report on the trip.

Nevil Norway (17 January 1899 – 12 January 1960) was an English novelist and aeronautical engineer who spent his later years in Australia. He used his full name in his engineering career and Nevil and his middle name as his pen name to protect his engineering career from inferences by his employers (Vickers) or fellow engineers that he was not a serious person or from potentially adverse publicity in connection with his novels, which included On the Beach and A Town Like Alice.
This is one of his lesser-known novels.
