Alan, how can the Yahoo spider log into the forum?!  That's what I saw it trying to do today!

Anonsi, the spider probably just had a look at the login page. They read on the main page "Welcome guest. Please login or register." Both "login" and "register" are links, so I imagine the spiders follow them mindlessly, which is why you can also sometimes see a spider "registering as a new member". But of course, they don't go ahead and fill in the details on the form.

In fact, if you search on Yahoo or Google for the phrase "Lexigame websites more enjoyable places", putting it in quotes, you will get a result from our forum login page, because those words are part of the registration agreement. Which shows that the login page is indexed.

Thanks, Alan.  I wondered how those crazy spiders were planning on logging in to the forum!

Hi VIRAL...
I apologise if my posts seem a bit repetetive on this subject..but...
There are 32 yahoo spiders all checking out the same thing...
How many does it take to scan a topic...???
How many spiders are there???
Why are they all doing the same thing???
I'm getting paranoid about the little critters now...or curious!!
I just don't understand them really...and as they are now a part of my daily life..i want the gumph on them...
Please explain..in simple terms...for me...
Thanks for your patience...

T, I wonder which bits of my previous explanations you didn't understand? You'll probably say, all the computer stuff. Well, I'm sorry, T, but it can't be explained without going into computer stuff. It's probably like trying to explain thixotropic paint without talking about pigments. Or trying to explain how the TV works without talking about electronics: "Don't flummox me with all that technical stuff - I just want to know what all those little people are doing in my living room!"

To try to dampen down the arachnophobia that seems to be sweeping the forum, I've installed another modification to the software. Now the spiders are mentioned only on the front page, where they are summarised so that each type is counted only once, regardless of how many separate processes they may have had running during the past 15 minutes. Also, the spiders should not be counted in the "most online" figures from now on. Of course this means it will probably be a long, long time before we ever beat the current "most online ever" figure of 77. But at least the daily figures in the future will give a more realistic picture of actual people visiting the forum website.

Not one forumite or forumate...
Not one guest..
Not one spider....
It's dreadfully quiet and i feel awful lonesome.... :'(
Won't someone come out to play???

Here is confirmation of just how much of a saddo i am...i am posting to no-one but me...
There is no body there to answer you or read this...
Isn't talking to yourself one of the signs of madness...???
I don't know T, is that what they say?
Apparently so..
Oh! Well, that's me stuffed then.
I know..but then i've known that for years...
Might as well go to bed then..
That sounds like a good idea..
Ok, I will then and see if I care  :-*
Be like that then...
I will, so there..

Aww T, that is so sad.  I can't believe not even one single spider wanted to join you on the fourm.  I suppose that's what happens when you ask Alan to sweep them out of our little area.
