As I am desperately trying to find my last common word, of the last standard puzzle of last year....HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone.

Feliz ano nuevo.

(There should be a tilde over the n but I don't know how to make one on the iPad.)

καλό νέο έτος

Eine gute neues jahr
(50 years since I lived there so there may be a superfluous s)

Pat, if you can get an 'alt' key on iPad, Alt 164 gives & alt 165 gives .
Otherwise;
option + n, n =
option + n, shift + n =

And the same to you, Anona.

As long as you don't expect me, or any other English, to pronounce it!

MK

(ps) Would I be right in thinking that the first word is pronounced something like 'blithin'? That would make it close to the English 'blithe' (=happy). Just a guess.

Pat, apologies. The easy way to do it on an iPad is to hold down the letter key that you want accented (e.g. hold n), and the options appear. Drag your finger to the one you want.

MK: I was brought up with something more (but not exactly) like "bloo-ith-in" with the "oo" and the "i" joined very quickly, but I can't be sure that some people wouldn't say something closer to "bloythin". A soft th sound as in 'breathe', of course. Sometimes, even 15 miles can make a difference to how people pronounce this particular vowel combination. And there's the Wenglish influence.

Once you know about the "dd", as you do, it all suddenly becomes easier, doesn't it!

Pat,

If it's Spanish there should be an upside-down exclamation mark at the start of the sentence/phrase!

Alt 173

and on iPad, hold the exclamation mark on the numbers keypad, not the letters keypad.

Yes, I know that Spanish requires exclamation and question marks at both the beginning of phrases. I think it's a good idea. I know how to make the special characters on a 'proper' computer - it was just on the iPad that I didn't know how to do it. But thanks for the extra info.
