Never heard of knish so googled said word.  It sounds  very tasty.
I would humbly like to suggest the the said Knish joins its cousin the Rissole
as a rare word  :-H :-H :-H

I had never heard of knish, either, to my knowledge (I'm not Jewish);  but as I said before, rissole is an everyday word to me. So I guess we're just all different.

I did find a list of Yiddish words somewhere. Perhaps I should find it and consult it whenever we get K and N, or S, C and H in the letters!

I learned this word from Chi a few years ago; since then I've heard it a few times in films and TV progs.  I've still never seen a 'real-life' knish as far as I know; there's not much call for Jewish food in Thailand, although I have seen packets of bagels on sale in the supermarkets occasionally.

Familiar throughout the English speaking world? Probably not, in my humble opinion.

Growing up in New Jersey, I didn't know it either until I moved to NYC, with its large eastern European population.  I know we've become much more cosmopolitan in our cuisines since I was a kid, but I do wonder if knishes are common outside metropolitan areas, especially those with large Jewish populations.

I agree - definitely not common everywgere Chi is played. I'll make both knish and knishes rare.
