spoiler, today's challenge puzzle
« on: October 02, 2016, 05:30:17 AM »
It appears that "calves" is not accepted.

I can see that as a form of the verb "calve" it would not be accepted, but as the plural of "calf" it should be accepted.

Alan, can we add "calves"?
Carpe digitus.
(Roughly translated, this is possibly the world's oldest "pull my finger" joke)

I have to agree with this suggestion - both 'calve' (verb) and 'calves' (noun plural) should count (imho).

Interestingly  in the game in question - (volcanoes) - both 'loave' and 'loaves' were accepted, the former as rare. A similar pair of words to 'calve' and 'calves'.

I've no idea what 'loave' means, (perhaps one of the other 40 who played it knows),  but, intending to play 'loaves' I hit the submit key too soon and this (to me) unknown word was accepted.

Thanks, Birdy, for that. All I need to do now is think up a meaningful sentence in which to use the word, other than 'When the dough is ready it is placed in tins to be loaved.'.
Certainly not a common word.

Don't know about you MK but my slice of life seems to have been bred from a pretty ordinary loaf.

I remember the parable of the loaves and fishes from childhood.

How about: "I was so tired of making rolls, I loaved the dough"?
