Thanks for the birthday wishes! It was a wonderful day. RD #1's schedule did not permit going to the Afghan restaurant or the chocolate restaurant. Instead, we went for brunch at a wine bar/bistro near RD #1's apartment. Excellent! I had a very tasty huevos rancheros benedict washed down with an Australian shiraz/malbec blend. We went elsewhere to have some tasty chocolate cake and coffee. The weather cooperated magnficently. Balmy temperatures (for November) and maximum sky, couldn't be better. All of my gifts thoughtfully fed into my current drive to learn the Norwegian  language. I started studying Norwegian before our trip to Norway this past summer, and I have continued after our return. The payoff, I hope, will be that I will be able to converse in their own language with my husband's many Norwegian cousins, a number of whom are now my Facebook friends. They are pretty fluent in English, but they tend to post in Norwegian, naturally enough.

RM, you never cease to amaze me.

I would wish you a happy birthday, but you have trounced my meager attempt.

Living such a fascinating life eclipses anything I could possibly say.

This from a man who can brew beer, march in a pipe band, be creative with food, win cooking contests, bike in terrain that is not flat, take up a challenging musical instrument later in life and get good enough at it to perform in public venues and begin compiling a CD? Heavens forfend!

A, you are at least as accomplished as I, if not more so, but perish the thought that any heartfelt greeting should be measured by the accomplishments of either the sender or the recipient. Everyone has his or her own particular talents and interests. Good will is precious and should be valued for itself. I appreciate that you and others have taken time to wish me a happy birthday.

RM, you are much too generous.

Mrs. A and I are firmly in your fan club.  For good reason.

Aargh!  Obviously, I need to neglect my other duties and get on Chi more often.

Sorry I missed a timely expression of my good wishes for your birthday, R-M, but I'm glad you had a good one.  And congratulations on your willingness to start learning a new language!
