Distrait

I have to question whether distrait, which was listed as common in the ten-letter puzzle from this past Monday, is, in fact common. It was new to me.

It was new to me, too, but I didn't question it because it sounded like a word I thought I ought to know. I'm glad I wasn't the only one!

I know it only as a French word, but you can never be sure in Chi which foreign words are going to be allowed; at one time French words such as this were considered quite genteel, and they often appear in older literature. Anyway, put me down as part of the 'make it rare' lobby.

I wonder if the feminine form 'distraite' would also be allowed?

I've seen it in historical novels quite often.

The word has now been made rare.
