map of regional American dialects

Once I looked at this map, I became even more relieved that Chi only deals with spelling, not pronunciation. Regional words and spellings are bad enough!

This is a labor of love by a man who does this for a hobby.

Much scholarship and research in earlier times was done by enthusiastic, wealthy 'amateurs' with time on their hands - the Brothers Grimm who devoted their lives to the study of language and the collection of folk-lore are but one example. There were lots of others.

Sigh. Another temptation to spend hours of studying!

A fascinating site. Thanks, Birdy. (I think!)  ;D

Birdy, what a wonderful and fascinating link!

MK, I could not agree more.  Scholarship, learning, and research should not be left to the professionals.  It matters too much!

TR, you are absolutely correct, but wouldn't they be blissful hours?  Maybe once I "retire" . . .
