casein - blessed are the cheesemakers
« on: March 01, 2013, 12:32:54 AM »
Could I suggest that this word be reclassed as common? I'm not a scientist, and I have to admit that some of the scientific terms that pass as common in Chi leave me puzzled. However I am familiar with 'casein' and know its importance in the cheese-making process. Each time it appears in a game I wonder why it's classed as rare. Anyone agree?

I don't agree because on principle, I don't want to add ANY words to the common list because I have to work hard enough to get a rosette as it is!

I agree with the bit about the cheesemakers being blessed.  ;D  As to casein, I think it's marginal.  I wouldn't object to it being made common, largely because it's a word I always see, so it would help me get a rosette.  It would be interesting to see how many players got it in the recent game and in previous ones.  If a majority of players got it, I think it strengthens the case for it to made common.

Are you a Monty Python fan, Morbius? Any others out there besides mkenuk (forgive the assumption, but based on your thread title) and me?

Yes, I'm a tragic Monty Python fan.  MK's reference to the cheesemakers has made me think that I must watch Life of Brian again soon.  Haven't seen it in years - one of the funniest films ever.

Spoken unlike a man who almost always gets his rosette.  Maybe you need the challenge!   :P

I spend way too much time getting rosettes. I'm thinking I should cut back when Great Lent begins (18 March).

For what it's worth, I think the word is correctly classified as rare.

I wouldn't object to it being made common, largely because it's a word I always see, so it would help me get a rosette.

A bit of false logic there, Morbius. If the word was made common it would simply increase by one the number of words necessary for a rosette, so you'd be no better off. Also, if an occasion arose where you didn't get it, it might be the only word that stopped you from getting a rosette!

Yes, I think I follow your argument, Pat.  I guess if it's a word I always get, it might slightly increase my chances of getting a rosette because I'd be unlikely to miss it.  Otherwise, no real advantage, as you say.

I might have missed the original point.  You might have to rennet past me again.

Not everyone knows much about cheese making.  Casein point.
