I don't know about the rest of you but I get annoyed with these 0844/0845/0870 phone numbers where the caller actually pays the callee for the privilege of making the call, especially when my phone plan gives me free calls to ordinary UK landlines at all times.

You just click on the 'Search to find an alternative number' link and it will display the normal landline number associated with 0500, 0800, 0808, 0842, 0843, 0844, 0845, 0870, 0871, 0872 and 0873 numbers. There won't always be an alternative number listed but it's usually worth a try, especially when the cost of calling a lot of these numbers is inflated by keeping you hanging on the phone for ages 'until an adviser becomes available'.
